I'm just saying that consciousness threads always contain arguments, shitty communication, stupid shit, and have been discussed to death so far that it's risen from the grave as a p-zombie.

I just don't want to read the same dumb arguments over and over again; it's not a good use of my time. I could just go outside or something.

That's all these red flags are - signs that a thread isn't really something I want to read, either because it'll be very low-quality discussion, just not interesting, or frustrating enough that I'd be successfully trolled or get in an Internet argument.

>> No.7459955

>>7459948
ok I see. yeah when you have the format of a "free for all" shitfest on an anonymous online forum the quality tends to drop. but the subject itself has never been more relevant.

you are right however in the sense of it somewhat always circling in on itself. I just relate problems in consciousness to many many societal ills.

All the youtube channels you've mentioned in my opinion are very entertaining, even if you already know what they're talking about. They also provide for an accessible source of reasonably accurate informations and explainations to the more layman public. Which is a good thing. I don't know why you keep being so fucking elitist about science. Sure, they're not good sources, but they're not that bad either. People who use them as their only source of scientifical culture should be taught to go beyond those easy-to-digest pills of science. Again, I have the impression people in here love to use science as a mean to be pretentious.

P.S. I agree about TBBT: it's just pure cancer.

This, evolution is one of the areas most plagued by popsci. People think everything is destined and designed by a coherent process of evolution, they believe in intelligent design in all but name.

Idk man they produce some good content besides that -1/12 vid, I've learned a lot from them just by hearing about different subjects in math then picking up a book for myself. For high school and young undergrads who never heard about some topics, it's a great way to hear something like "knot theory" and then go they can investigate it for themselves if they dig it.

...That's what I *do*. That's what I thought "/sci/ red flags" meant. As in, these are the red flags that tell you that won't enjoy a thread and should probably just hide or ignore it.

Just a word which can be used to describe trends
>>quantum
Quantum mechanics are a legitimate field
>>consciousness
A real thing with poorly defined boundaries, is open to discussion/research
>>holistic
It just means "as a whole" which is quite appropriate considering fields bleed into each other (bio, chem, physics, math, etc)
>>studies show that...
Reporting on scientific findings is a good thing. Even better is when people read them
>>reification fallacy
You'll need to explain what happened specifically here

So... It sounds like you're just choosing popular keywords and disregarding them to place yourself above the mainstream, rather than being glad people are talking about science. This is a very immature attitude and I would have expected better from you. But knowing /sci/ you're most likely an undergrad whose hormones are still out of control. You'll care far less about these things in 10 years.

Yes all these words are can be used legitimately but they are often signs of incoming bullshit. For example most of the time you hear "studies show" it's a baseless claim that people say science backs up.
