IQ only tells you how fast you can understand something.
It does not measure what you can do with what you understand. This means Feynman would take "longer" (123 is still pretty good) to understand something (more then a 140 IQ person), but once he did, he could mold is knowledge and use it like no one else.

If you answered the first 2/3rds correct.
That's around 96.67 already.

Then you have a 1/8 chance to answer randomly the remaining 1/3 questions. Assuming you looked at the answers and quickly cancelled out some poor choices, that chance may be 1/4 instead.

1/4 of the renaming 48.33 possible points leaves around 12.0825.

96.67 + 12.0825 = 108.7525
seems okay. If time is part of the calculation, the speed through the last 1/3 might of bumped it up.

a standard deviation is a measure of how spread out a distribution is, in the bell curve it means that 68% of the population is less than 1 standard deviation from the average, and 95% of the population is within 2 standard deviations from the average. (99.7% within 3 and so on).

It just stretches the x axis if you change it, the relationship between different IQs remain the same.

If you have an IQ of 130 with a sd of 15 it thus means you are smarter than 97.5% of the population.

IQ scores (along with many other measurements, such as height or weight) can be plotted as a normal distribution - the bell curve. That means a very large portion of people (68%) are bunched within one standard deviation of the mean when the standard deviation is 15 points. If you have a clean bell curve of scores with the worst on the bottom and the best on the top, and you drew a line straight down the middle at 100, you'd find that 68% of your scores were from 85 to 115. The SD is a way of telling you just how unusual your score is relative to most people. A lower SD means more people are bunched around the mean, because on a normal distribution, 68% of people are always within one SD of the mean on either side. A higher score on a test with a higher SD isn't as impressive as one might initially think.

I actually made a mistake with the graph last time - bottom one wasn't stretched properly.

Anyways, when it comes to the normal distribution, the area under the curve from the left side to the cutoff (in this case, 120) is the way you calculate the percentage of people who are under that cutoff point, thus giving you the percentile score. The area under that curve is 1.000. The area from the left side to the cutoff is determined like this:

Subtract the given value (120) from the mean (100) and divide by the standard deviation (24). Then take that value (your z-score) and plug it in to this chart:

http://www.sixsigmastudyguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/z-table.jpg

Whatever you get is the percentile of that value on a normal distribution. Notice how a higher standard deviation reduces the z-score, thus lowering the percentile.

There is a lot of comments on what the spread means (15, 16, 24). Yes, IQ scores can be plotted by a bell curve centered at 100 with a standard deviation. This is not what these numbers mean. These should be viewed as a standard deviation for a confidence interval around the calculated score.

There are a number of sources of error in the test:
- You can guess at any question and have a 1/8 chance of getting it right
- The test could be easier or harder than intended. i.e. if every one took it, the test would generate an average <>100.
- The test has to translate 40 questions to a 200 point scale using some algorithm that may or not be accurate.

The spread (15, 16, 24) is intended to indicate the confidence that the result is accurate given possible sources of error. Higher spread results in a higher number but less confidence that it is accurate.

Incidentally, I assume that each choice is the correct answer 5 times (40 questions / 8 possible solutions). I tested this. Choosing all A or all H both generated an IQ of 79.

If you are going to guess pick the same letter for all guesses increases the likelihood of getting a few correct. Guessing is a binomial distribution. Variance of this is n*p*(1-p). Guessing once, the variance is simply p*(1-p). Guessing n times increases the variance. If you track your choices, pick the one least chosen.

Which colored one?

16 square red blue grey thing worked like this.

Grey squares appear in a diagonal pattern going top to bottom left.

Red and blue squares go right, and drop down to the next row at the left when they get to the end of the previous row.

If they go behind a grey square, they change colour from blue to red, or red to blue

>IQ test

Yeah you mean the "test" of matching lines and circles? I call bullshit on the whole thing. I disagree that matching lines and circles makes you intelligent. There are plenty of people who get really high scores on the IQ test who lack intelligence and plenty of people who say, "Fuck this stupid shit" who are very intelligent.

Psychology as a whole is a bullshit field lacking rigor. There's nothing to suggest anything coming from that field is any more rigorous.

The problem is in trying to separate "intelligence" from "knowledge" when in fact they're basically the same thing. The best judgement of intelligence would be to pick a field that seems well suited to your "type" of intelligence and see how you stack up against others.

Plenty of engineers would be terrible project managers. Plenty of Chemists would make terrible mathematicians.

It's ironic because those getting high IQ results and boasting in it are the ones too stupid to reject the supposed authority of the test.

tl;dr there's nothing to suggest this number means anything...at all. It's just a number derived from matching lines and circles. Ridiculous.

Intellect is also very difficult to quantify; pattern recognition (which is literally all this test is) is a vastly important part of it, however it is by no means the be-all-end-all determinant of what kind of contributions you could make.

For example I'm not sure how well pattern recognition and creativity go hand-in-hand, if even very much at all, however I don't know of a specific test for creativity that would actually reflect your potential. So we just test for what we can actually quantify.

130 is the top 2.28%. You're basically at the same level.

Except IQ tests are bullshit and that's very obvious.

Just like a "stock price" doesn't actually exist. But humans are too good at seeing underlying abstract concepts that don't actually exist that we have to actually *try* to be able to not see them.

But if you stop and think about it for any length of time, you'd realize matching lines and circles isn't any measure of how intelligent someone is. It's just some retarded psychologist's attempt to justify his existence.

>> No.7374575

I think there's a big difference between someone with an IQ of 100 and 120 in terms of intelligence, but between 130 and 150 you'd barely be able to spot the one with an IQ of 150 in an academic setting, if at all. IQ has a bunch of correlations so there's a statistical use for it, so I would be lying to myself if I said it was complete bullshit. It depresses me that someone with an IQ of say 130 gets by easy and is far more respected than someone with an IQ of 90-95 who probably struggles to get by in his academic studies, but it does happen. Let's not forget that IQ changes over time.

The max score is 145 at 15sd.
We're all using 15sd

To get higher than 145 you would have to use deviation 16, which has a max of 148.
Or deviation 24, which is max 172.

So your 151 (24sd) based master race is actually 132 (15sd)

And your 163 (24sd) is 139 or 140 (15sd)
