Recently I was told by a very knowledgeable source that a Mathematician by the name of... I can't remember the guy's name, it starts with a P and is something like parov, or pavu, idk, he's russian. Anyways, this mathematician doesn't like to be in cities and is pretty crazy. And he's solved how to factor prime numbers or whatever. It's a big deal apparently.

Anyone here have any info on this? I can't remember very well what my source told me

With this statement in mind, a lot of math has gone too far away from having value. I am a mathematics major but I will freely admit large sections of math are long irrelevant strings of logical connectives with no physical meaning or interpretation.

It's impossible for math to go too far. Other fields can go too far (ex Unit 731) but math cannot, since the only thing that can happen is some wacky theorem that people find counterintuitive.
