Sexual preference in life has nothing to do with genetics. Just like genetically being hardwired to have sex you can still choose to not have sex, the personal decision trumps genetics so it doesn't apply here. You cannot say the choice to not have sex was something dictated by genetics.

When people say "being gay is not a choice" they don't mean it on a genetic level. They mean that it's how they feel sexually, which is a preference. Like food, genetically you can eat cheese and be fine, but you personally hate cheese and are grossed/not interested.

The fact that people try to attach a "born with it and can't do anything about it" clause with genetics is really ignorant. Yes genetics can make a person gay, but your preferences in life are ultimately your decisions.

Also, you didn't consider the fact that many homosexuals still have heterosexual sex and kids at some point in their lives due to society making it taboo and pressuring them to try a hetero life.

Agreed, except for the last part. Trans only means that the individual is gender dysphoric (the proper treatment is hormones and surgery), but it says nothing about the individual's sexual preferences. A trans person may well be homo or bi.

It's difficult to have a scientific consensus in a field so affected by political agenda. Though I recall reading a book, Kon, "Introduction to sexology", that gave a nice overview of related studies back in the 90s. Among the most probable causes listed there were errors of prenatal development — it's a really interesting read, and even more so in the part about transsexuals and such.

Being gay doesn't exclude you from being able to have sex with women or bare children. It just means that you are less inclined to do so because of your preference. So if you do it it's only because you want appease society or actually want children of your own.

It's not like theirs a gene that says "oh you're gay" and shuts down your ability to reproduce, your sex drive and sperm still functions.

No. It's unexplained as are many aspects of human behavior/(neuro)psychology. Sure there are lots of theories, but there's no consensus nor any scientific basis to make any. One of these theories might be right, or all of them could, or it could vary in each individual fag.

I actually just went to a lecture today about the adaptive nature of homosexuality in humans. Without explaining a bunch of evolutionary theories, homosexuals are basically like worker ants, in that they contribute to their social group but make more children, which is more work

Also, please take in consideration that sexuality can change through the course of an individual life. There exist heteresoxuals who started enjoyng gay sex, as there are hasbians and everything (but remember that these changes are a reflection of a change in taste or in desire, like when you start to try new drinks or foods and develop a new taste for something. Those changes ARE NOT the same thing as associationg a certain feeling with another [for example, having your balls shocked whenever you taste wine... Or being constantly told that you're commiting a sin until you can't live with yourself)

I think the idea that sexuality is not something rigid is terrifying for certain people. I mean, from a logical point of view, in the moment that I have to accept that gay people exist (i.e. I don't have the right to kill or convert them anymore), I need to convince myself that everybody is born gay or straight and will stay that way for the rest of their lifes, so that I don't have to worry that I might experience changes in taste...

Also, a lot of cultural factors play out. There are people whom develop a biological and deterministic about sexuality, but if you take a little bit of your time to study History, Comparative Sociology and Comparative Anthropology, you'll see that a lot of societies had differing thoughts and behaviours regarding sexuality, and let's not even talk about gender. Don't confound the fact that we live in a globalized (western/american) society with as "the biological human behavior"
