People have been eating butter for thousands of years.

"Science" (the half-assed, correlation-fishing kind) "discovers" that a normal diet is bad for you, tells everyone that dietary fat makes you fat and gives you heart disease. People start trying to avoid fat, especially natural fat of the kind they had been eating forever and had evolved to eat. Everyone gets fat, with diabetes.
