Is computer science a science ?

>> No.6976850

does it follow the scientific method? if yes, it is a science. if no, then it is not a science

>> No.6976853

Absolutely no.

>> No.6976855

science answers questions about nature or the universe. computer science seems more like technology that can be used by scientists.

Okay so its not a science and its not computers either. Its just there.

It is a science.
Nowadays the standard "Computer Scientist" is working on their own useless rip-off of Flappy Bird to make a quick buck so I understand the confusion.

But Computer Science is the science that studies how complext and how fast our algorithm can be.

It's basically just applied math into any kind of algorithm so solve any kind of problem. The problem is this science facilitates the cause of a bunch of faggots that want to make Flappy Bird clones and now everyone who says they are a Software Engineer or Computer Sciencist is seen as a huge faggot.

You mean he has a degree in comp science
Why would you call him a scientist when he's not in research

if it's because most people with comp Sci degrees aren't in research I think that goes for most degrees

This. CS is essentially a branch of mathematics.

Not really. There are elements of math, but it's not a branch.

It's just as much of a science as social sciences

>> No.6979068

computer science is not the study of computers. it started before computer even existed. It's like saying astronomy is the study of telescopes.

computer science is not only algorithmics, this is a really small sub-branch

>> No.6979076

>>6976845
Some of it is, the empirical bits; programming development, design techniques, source code control, testing methods, user interface design.

The theoretical bits are more math than science.

Computer graphics is a form of science. Especially the part focused on perception is closely knit with neuroscience.

Not really, computer vision is focused on understanding the content of the image, perception is focused on how you will see the image.

Computer Graphics is how you make images with computers. Like a graphics card.

Computer Vision is computers understanding content and perceiving and stuff.

It has applications of math and engineering. Although, its closely related to physics as well. Physics is a science and so is the study of computers.
