I like SMBC. It's not specifically /sci/ related, but I feel like it trusts its readers to be intelligent enough to get the jokes

I hate XKCD. It's pretentious and circlejerky. If some faglord autist drawing stick figures regurgitating age old scinerd humor appeals to you, consider euthanasia.

guy who "draws" that shit is a fucking hipster doofus who's just trying to make memes.

I find his "relationship" stuff the funniest since it's so unintentionally hilarious... given that the author has never had a gf or a real relationship so he's just guessing what it's like.

kek

Also, since I'm at it, why the fuck's the kg (kilogram) the SI unit of mass and not the g (gram)? I mean, I know that you'll have to deal with much bigger numbers using the gram, but it's much more sensual and less of a pain in the butt. Using the kilogram means you'll have to transform the Mg (Megagram) or the Tm (Teragram) or whatever else into gram and then into the kilogram again (You can go straight into the kg, but I don't do so and it's still a pain), which is just a pain in the fucking balls. I feel France really don fuck'd when they chose the kg as the SI unit and not the g.

tl;dr - g > kg (In value)

iirc it was like that in the very beginning, but they changed it to kg later
it kind of lost point when you use also (kilo/mega/etc.) tons (I guess megagram and gigagram is too long/hard to pronounce)

but yeah it would be more logical to have "g" as basic unit instead of "kg"

That shit's long dead and it's never been accurate. The meter was defined by a rod, but got changed into the distance the light travels in 1/299,792,458 seconds. People are trying to standardise the kg and if that was accomplished, I'd rather have the SI unit changed into the gram instead of the kilogram because it's a basic value, or I'd also like to see the kilogram changed into a basic value with a different name because reasons ('kilo'-gram).

But xkcd isn't math humor. It's social interaction humor and pop culture references. The math "jokes" are just to make it harder to understand, which means the people "getting" it can pat themselves on the back about how nerdy they are, but ultimately, it's not what drives the comic.

Obscuring a comic for normal people as a comic for nerds was a pretty clever branding trick. Which is what makes it so successful.

>Since when is bashing xkcd considered cool?

Since it got popular. You have to realize, /sci/ has a lot of people who were never popular, so they became contrarian instead. If lots of people like XKCD, it has to be shit.

(And as long as I’m on the subject: ‘literary’ stories about broken people becoming even more broken are not fun to read on grounds of pure hedonics. If you try to countersignal that your story must be very hip and contrarian because it offers so little merely pleasurable reward for reading it, don’t expect to sucker anyone self-aware enough to have moved on past meta-contrarianism.)
