Why is this a bad thing?

>> No.6811817

>>6811813
surely her design would also be created for bisexual male and female gamers and homosexual female gamers, among other lgbtafjdjnbshhelpmeiamtrappedinanacronymfactory variations on the -sexual orientation- -gender- idea

Because it is apparently bad to enjoy things if you are a straight male gamer.

Ya honestly, I don't get it. It's just a game that has a target audience of anybody that can enjoy a female body. Being male, If the same game came out but did the same thing to a male, I wouldn't care as I understand games have certain target audiences. If they appeal to literally everyone then they are generally bland.

Why the fuck did you post this topic to /sci/ anyway?

>> No.6811851

>>6811817
1. Marketing campaigns can incidentally include non-intended demographics that share similar likes as the target audience
2. It's a generalisation. Naturally, straight male gamers also include other orientations that enjoy things that straight male gamers do. They are just BY FAR a much larger proportion. It doesn't make it any less sexist/less of an issue just because there are a few muff divers out there that also enjoy Bayonetta's design.

No. But that's just my opinion, I don't believe Bayonetta is sexist either.

> It doesn't make it any less sexist/less of an issue just because there are a few muff divers out there that also enjoy Bayonetta's design.

Any LESS sexist. In my case, it's not sexist at all, so naturally it can't be less sexist anyway. But someone who believes it's sexist to some degree shouldn't have their argument diminished based on the fact that lesbians exist.

There are other reasons their arguments are stupid, that just isn't one of them.

>> No.6811893

Specifically define "sexist" and specifically define the issue at hand. Your argument appears to be that because the product is generally aimed at a male audience, it's sexist. With that logic, bras are sexist because they are specifically aimed at women.

Objectifying a woman is empowering when women say it is empowering, and sexist when women say it's sexist. A woman's concept of reality is just like a man's, except everything is subjective instead of objective, and so anything and everything can be fundamentally different if she's having a bad day. Why are you acting like reality is objective, anon? That's sexist. You're not *sexist* are you???

There's genuine feminist criticism of video games and then there's Sark.
Don't expect her critiques to stand up to any real peer review as her methods lack rigor and she'd be laughed out of academic feminist circles.
The best way is to treat her like all other bad science, ignoring it.

I still don't understand the issue though. No one is forcing big titted half naked women into all video games. It's definitely males age 18-35 that this game is made for.

Why doesn't she instead point out that there aren't video games targeted to females age 18-35 like there are to males?

I don't think Bayonetta was actually designed to be sexually attractive. She's designed to look like a runway fashion model with an extremely "liberated" and flamboyant personality. If she was designed to be sexually titillating then she would look like the typical 16 year old JRPG character (since she's designed by a japanese studio)

Not the same anon you responded to but I agree with this. She should be asking for new games to be targeted towards women. That way they can get what they want. Taking games specifically targeted to an audience and watering them down makes them more bland and both parties won't be satisfied. Why not have the best of both worlds instead of a single watered down ones?

No, she shouldn't.

Businesses aren't stupid and they want your money. If there is a market for these games, some company will have found it by now and made a shit tonne of games for it.

Asking for something that businesses don't believe will sell is as entitled as you can get.

>P-p-please spend millions of dollars on a product you know will flop just to satisfy me and a small collection of women

Yes, female gamers are on the rise. However, once you take out shitty iPhone/Facebook games and gamer girls that only play a very limited arrangement of games, you're not left with enough gamers willing to spend enough money on games to support a huge amount of female targeted games.

Anyway, I don't see what is wrong with asking. Obviously businesses are out to make a profit, otherwise they wouldn't be making games in the first place. I mean let me ask you this question. Do women like games and if so what games do they like playing? That is a whole demographic that could produce money. I don't think trying to go down that path is unwise and I think it is worth checking out. If such a path is nonprofitable then so be it.

>>P-p-please spend millions of dollars on a product you know will flop just to satisfy me and a small collection of women
Don't strawman. I never said that.

I do realize that females tend to play iPhone/Facebook/Social games. If those are the only types of games that they are interested in then nothing is really broken to begin with.

I bet you there are more enthusiastic female gamers that aren't out for a social changing agenda via identity politics and screaming "rape culture" than there are touchy idiot Tumblrites tweeting how offended they are by everything.

In fact I'm positive that women can like video games without them being censored for PSTD rape "triggers" and any suggestion of sex and gender norms.

If you were a business man, wouldn't you want to investigate to see if you could make an extra buck by marketing games to women? They already do. Who do you think is using the cash shop in Candy Crush or Angry Birds whatever the new smartphone game is? Who do you think is buying all the Sims DLC? Who do you think is buying Fujo Fantasy XV with an all-attractive male cast?

Devs have already tried marketing full length games you have to sit down and dedicate significant time towards to these women and they've all flopped. Remember Me was basically built on "publishers said that a game with a female protag would never sell and we want girls to prove us wrong!" and no one bought it. JRPGs with effete faggot protagonists are the only serious genre they care about, but weeb women are a very small part of the gaming community.

Ya, I can agree with switching businessman with entrepreneur.

My ultimate argument is that men and women generally have different interests. Videogames are targeted to men because the market exists for it. The reason why Bayonetta was designed sexually was to better tap into that particular market. Anita's argument is to attack that market and water it down. This just weakens the demand for the game and doesn't help it since I'm doubting that most women are buying the game to begin with. A game being marketed to a particular audience shouldn't be watered down so that it is more "acceptable" to people who probably wouldn't play the game anyway.

Or it has excellent gameplay. The fact that she's a witch named "cherry" is just a bonus. She's hyperbole and ultra violent.

If she's offensive to dogmatic prudes, then her story is only that much more developed. Witches were despised and feared.

And make games unplayable. Bayonetta's character development won't have her say to enemies "You offend me!" then she goes to tweet about it. Her character would tell her enemy "FUCK OFF" while shooting a bullet at their head while giving them a view of her crotch.

Milquetoast, bland and easily offended characters would make utterly banal games. Why doesn't anita see that?

>The Women as Background Decoration trope which is the subset of largely insignificant non-playable female characters whose sexuality or victimhood is exploited as a way to infuse edgy, gritty or racy flavoring into game worlds. These sexually objectified female bodies are designed to function as environmental texture while titillating presumed straight male players.
