What's /sci/s favorite science/math movies? My favorite is A Beautiful Mind, or maybe Infinity.

A research satellite carrying a virus from outer space crashes near a small town and infects and kills all the residents.

Not usually into sci-fi but I like the book and the movie captures the atmosphere quite well.

I hated a beautiful mind. I just really hate it when mental illness like schizophrenia is pictured as full blown hallucinations like that. Sure it's hard to do on film, but voices in the head wouldn't suffice? I just think the film's a really poor portrayal of Nash.

My native language is Spanish, yet I speak better English than 99.(9)% of the people I know. Also, one does not need to know a specific language to know movie names are capitalised.

Nash said the movie was completely inaccurate as well.

>> No.6693466

The movie captured the grief and sadness of an individual suffering through schizophrenia quite well, but the movie itself focused too much on drama and "mystery thriller", that ended up getting in the way of Nash's much more subtle experience with schizophrenia as well as his developments in mathematics and science.

It still was quite beautiful to see it become "overcome", even it was a little rushed, however! Great movie overall!

I liked A Beautiful Mind, but it's more about psychology than math. After watching it I started to always make sure that my net of friendships form a connected graph so to be sure that all my friends are real. It isn't connected anymore since I moved to a university in another city though... whatever.
I don't watch that many movies, are anime ok too? I liked Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes (never watched Chaos;Head), in particular Robotics;Notes is quite believable as a not-too-distant future.

If it's fiction it's an escapist waste of time, how about some documentaries? One of my favorites is "The Engines That Came in from the Cold." You can watch it here:

worth watching now because of the whole RD-180 debacle with Russia right now.

isn't that one of those movies where people only use like 10% (or part) of their brain? I never understood this. How can you even think that you use 10% of your brain.

Are they talking about the neurons in your brain and implying that 90% of your neurons don't work?

It always pissed me off that Morgan Freeman prances around spewing misinformation concerning science in films after he's flaunted during interviews that he loves science and he's narrated science documentaries.

Fine, if you want to star in a movie which espouses idealism and rejects objective reality but, fuck, don't spread the 10% myth the biggest trope in false science facts.
