do any of you believe the idea that artificial intelligence is coming in the next 50 or so years (aka in our lifetimes)?

>> No.6652699

>>6652695
Artificial intelligence has existed ever since the first computer.

>> No.6652701

yes, in fact, my job revolves around AI development at one of the countries largest labs.
Ill make it happen, dont worry OP!

do you know what i mean or don't you?

>> No.6652705

>>6652702
That depends...
Define artificial intelligence, preferably separated parables.

>> No.6652707

>>6652705
i'm not going to
it's clear what i mean when i say it isn't here yet
this isn't philosophy

>> No.6652709

>>6652707
Well then my statement still stands, assuming you're leaning on the english definition.

human-like intellect in math/science? yeah
computers talking, interacting with realspace? not so much. not really necessary or profitable.

Google already has several extremely advanced AI systems.

Thank YOU anon, from this day forward, I shall capitalize all of my pronouns. And THEY shall be important, just like YOU say THEY should.

You wanker, the pronoun "I" is different from the other pronouns in the sense that it is a single letter. One wouldn't fully capitalise the others.

To provide you with an example of such from another language, one could say, "fahren sie ins kino?" in German, when in fact the correct spelling is, "Fahren Sie ins Kino?". While one can determine the meaning of "Sie" from the conjugation of the verb, it makes things easier if you do it the correct, grammatical way. Capitalisation is an important concept mate.

50 years is probably a better guess than 20 years, 20 years ago.
Strong AI, so robots as clever as us... I'm not sure, it's probably more a danger than anything, despite how useful it could be....
Who needs people if you have strong AI?
It's not the AI itself though, it's just people are dangerous..

>> No.6652743

>>6652695
I think its the internets, thats why they want to unplug some of it.

>> No.6652744

>>6652735
OOooohhh, I see. So from now on, You would have Me capitalize only one letter out of each pronoun?

(Okay, seriously. Capitalization of "I" makes no fucking different in the English language. German would work without capitalized nouns, and English would be the same and just as rigorous if "I" wasn't capitalized. All rules of capitalization are arbitrary.)

People can be intelligent too =) so we don't really need smart computers

>> No.6652755

>>6652750
Why?

>> No.6652760

>>6652750
One can talk about AI without talking about immortality.
>>6652695
Yes, I think so, but it is a gradual process and will not explicitly map onto human cognition, e.g., self-driving cars.

>> No.6652768

>>6652753
By the use it or lose it theory, smart computers = stupid people?

>> No.6652772

op here

i fear that something like skynet will happen

i fear that human beings will become inferior in a very real way that fellow humans have never been

i fear that our way of life will change and our accomplishments marginalized

i strongly consider taking an anti-technological, anti-artificial intelligence stance

>> No.6652773

>>6652695
Artificial intelligence already exists. It has just been covered up. You don't think so? Well try doing a mathematical calculation in your head faster than a calculator. Checkmate, you can't. It proves they're smarter than any of us. So it makes you wonder what other things calculators are thinking about when they're not doing math. That's why I always pull the batteries out of mine at night and unplug all of my computers.

>> No.6652777

>>6652772
Then stop using your computer, luddite. What are the robots going to do that the humans at NSA aren't already?

>> No.6652778

>>6652772
Don't worry too much =)
By the time we're smart enough to build it, hopefully we'll be smart enough to know it's a bad idea

>> No.6652788

but then again, the track record isn't particularly good...

>> No.6652799

We still continue to build nastier and nastier weapons... Don't really need AI to end us, just put another idiot in front of another trigger

>> No.6652804

>>6652799
the AI i fear wouldn't be an idiot in front of a trigger but a super intelligent being that controls millions of triggers it designs and implements specifically to annihilate us inferior beings

>> No.6652812

>>6652804
it's still just an idiot with a trigger =)

everytime an idiot pulls a trigger, another two idiots with triggers pop up =D

>> No.6652826

If there's more than one AI, then they will probably continue squabbling in that scenario...

If there is only one AI, (is this the singularity everyone is so hyped about?) then I guess it will be very lonely

>> No.6652836

>>6652804
I guess it's kind of unlikely to do this willingly..
We are supposedly the superior beings at the moment, yet many can appreciate other creatures?

If it's not happy with it's creator though..?

Considering that science has only a vague idea of how actual intelligence arises, the software version of it is not likely to appear for hundreds of years.
