Imagine the situation Sci.

A train is hurtling towards 5 people tied to a track, you have the power to throw a lever and switch the tracks so it will kill the 1 person instead.

If you choose to do nothing are you effecting the system? Or do your particles remain un-entangled from this whole event?

If I were to change the train to run over the single person then I'd be initiating aggression against that person.

The picture is not representative of situation.
The one guy is a worker on closed track.
5 people who are on other tracks are doing fuck knows what.
You shouldn't be on railway tracks, hence the people are retarded.
You don't do do anything, the guy who is working, gets to do his work.
The retards get rolled over/

if instead of one person, there are now four persons in a car
>does the probability of a car accident increase/decrease? (considering the 3 new people in the car aren't annoying and therefore the reason for it)
>does the probability of someone dieing increase/decrease?
>does the probability of every person in the car (1/4) increase/decrease?

Anyway, there wouldn't be a paradox if it's not feasible reallistically.
The depicted radius is too small for train to make a turn. Unless it is going very slow, then the guy just says for it to stop.
Anyway, if people are too far away to hear you, you just signal for train to stop.
If they are in shouting distance you say to them just get the fuck away form rails.
Stupid people.

Witnessing the system was to assess the system, and assessing the system is to activate the environment around you in accordance with a mashup of what you know to be possible, the possibilities that WILL be, and the field of possibilities as allowed by the offset of factors that are inevitable.

Fun variation with cars.

Imagine the type of self-driving cars Google is developing. You are alone in the car, when suddenly 2 children run in front of your car. (They are children, imagine their ball rolled on the road or something like that.)

The car calculates that there is not enough distance to come to a full stop. It can choose between:
A) Hitting the two children.
B) Going off the road and hitting a tree, killing you in the process.

The car must make a decision.
From a utilitarian viewpoint, hitting the tree is the most logical option.
From a commercial viewpoint, you won't sell any cars if someone else's mistake can trigger the car into killing the driver.

On Twin Earth, a brain in a vat is at the wheel of a runaway trolley. There are only two options that the brain can take: the right side of the fork in the track or the left side of the fork. There is no way in sight of derailing or stopping the trolley and the brain is aware of this, for the brain knows trolleys. The brain is causally hooked up to the trolley such that the brain can determine the course which the trolley will take.

On the right side of the track there is a single railroad worker, Jones, who will definitely be killed if the brain steers the trolley to the right. If the railman on the right lives, he will go on to kill five men for the sake of killing them, but in doing so will inadvertently save the lives of thirty orphans (one of the five men he will kill is planning to destroy a bridge that the orphans' bus will be crossing later that night). One of the orphans that will be killed would have grown up to become a tyrant who would make good utilitarian men do bad things. Another of the orphans would grow up to become G.E.M. Anscombe, while a third would invent the pop-top can.

If the brain in the vat chooses the left side of the track, the trolley will definitely hit and kill a railman on the left side of the track, "Leftie" and will hit and destroy ten beating hearts on the track that could (and would) have been transplanted into ten patients in the local hospital that will die without donor hearts. These are the only hearts available, and the brain is aware of this, for the brain knows hearts. If the railman on the left side of the track lives, he too will kill five men, in fact the same five that the railman on the right would kill. However, "Leftie" will kill the five as an unintended consequence of saving ten men: he will inadvertently kill the five men rushing the ten hearts to the local hospital for transplantation. A further result of "Leftie's" act would be that the busload of orphans will be spared. Among the five men killed by "Leftie" are both the man responsible for putting the brain at the controls of the trolley, and the author of this example. If the ten hearts and "Leftie" are killed by the trolley, the ten prospective heart-transplant patients will die and their kidneys will be used to save the lives of twenty kidney-transplant patients, one of whom will grow up to cure cancer, and one of whom will grow up to be Hitler. There are other kidneys and dialysis machines available, however the brain does not know kidneys, and this is not a factor.

Assume that the brain's choice, whatever it turns out to be, will serve as an example to other brains-in-vats and so the effects of his decision will be amplified. Also assume that if the brain chooses the right side of the fork, an unjust war free of war crimes will ensue, while if the brain chooses the left fork, a just war fraught with war crimes will result. Furthermore, there is an intermittently active Cartesian demon deceiving the brain in such a manner that the brain is never sure if it is being deceived.

I guess just kill the one dude. Poor motherfucker but if it was me in the one dudes position I would understand, 5 people's lives are more worthwhile than one.

Unless it's someone I know. Then I'm fucked by morals and personal preference.

QUESTION: What should the brain do?

[ALTERNATIVE EXAMPLE: Same as above, except the brain has had a commisurotomy, and the left half of the brain is a consequentialist and the right side is an absolutist.]

No you wouldn't. No matter what, you will go to your grave kicking and screaming, it is in your very dna programming, there is no way you would "be ok with it".

>5 people's lives are more worthwhile than one

How do you know that? Do you know the future? Are you some kind of psychic? You kill the 1 guy instead of the 5 because "that's the logical choice". Good job, Spock, now the 5 people go out into the world and, who knows, kill other people, rape other people, or even live meaningless and pathetic lives consuming the planet's resources.

You're like the guy who sees a butterfly trapped in a spider's web. Do you save the butterfly? Oh, but then the spider will starve?

Oh, is try and get out of the ropes until the train came and severed my head, but I wouldn't take it like a whiny asshole.

And sure, 5 people have more potential for good than one. Why do you retards always go for "mass murderers muhuhaha". Even if they were they could be rehabilitated.

And yes, I have saved relatively passive bugs from spiderwebs before, the spider could be venomous and bite me in my sleep, or at least crawl all over me while I'm asleep and creep me the fuck out (had one crawl all over my pillow the other day in the middle of the day).

I've also stopped spiders from killing each other in a battle of territory before.

if the bus goes slightly fast, taking a turn at this curvature wuld throw it off the tracks killing half the passengers and badly injuring the other half. Thats way to many witnesses.

Let it pass, THEN flip the switch and wait for the next train (or rather get the fuck away)
