sci do you think that there is life else where within our solar system? eg., in the oceans of europa & enceladus, lakes of titan, atmosphere of venus

>> No.6367970

>>6367965
I'd bet money that there's (single-celled, more-primitive-than-bacteria) life out there elsewhere in our solar system.

Probably not Venus' atmosphere, though, but underneath Mars' surface and inside Europa/Enceladus seem likely.

>> No.6367991

i can't wait for the day we send a probe down into europa. theres got to be some sort of life down there, micro-organisms near the volcanoes at the very bottom of the ocean atleast

>> No.6368042

I do think that the named places among others could potentially support life as we know it.
I can't really say if it exist, but if it does that would be huge news and change the way we see life, especially if it's chemically different from life on earth.

>> No.6368056

>>6367991
People assume because there is water there is a high chance for life

Life requires luck and energy. The more energy you have the less luck you need.

Earth is alot larger and has alot more energy from the sun, therefor there is a fuckton more chemical reactions going on and at a faster pace

Life in europa is definitely possible but the chances of it are less likely than earth

i really wish space exploration would get more funding. we know nothing about other worlds with life, and there is an incredibly large number of them.

Could the radiation from Jupiter give the energy life would need ?
I mean not ridiculous amounts like there is on the surface , the ice should absorbs most of it.
So lets say 30% of the surface radiation ?

>> No.6368236

>>6368196

I don't see why not, but I don't know if it would be a useful form of energy for life to use. The most probable basis of life on Europa would be chemosynthetic microbes, not solar obviously.

>> No.6368263

I read about debris that had been ejected from earth large enough for microbes to survive ha could've crashed on other planets so we might find life that is out distant relations

>> No.6368284

I think it is likely.

We already have proof that is possible under nature's laws here on earth. I don't see why the rest of the universe would be any different

I like your optmism, I really do.
"I'd bet money," hoping to lose, just for the privilege of seeing how someone would win that bet.
But should you really be betting on biology?
>more-primitive-than-bacteria
I don't believe it is your subject.

>>6368064
umwot?

>>6368263
Oh. Can we drum up some excitement for this? It would be so much more useful to have people collecting data for the possibility of this than making wild guesses for the unknows in the Drake equation.

>> No.6369535

life yes

civilization no

>> No.6369549

my money is on Europa having simple organisms. Perhaps something like the tube worms we have near underwater vents here on Earth

>sci do you think that there is life else where within our solar system?

Nothing beyond amoeba-dads and simple goops I'd imagine.

Unless the conspiracy theorists are right and there IS actually trees growing on mars- I think that would be pretty cool.

>> No.6369556

Yes.
But I doubt it's much more than bacteria

No

No

No
>atmosphere of venus
Jesus Christ no!

Some organizations are desperate for funds, so they're going to tell people exaggerations like every asscrack in the solar system might have aliens lurking in it and they need $$$ to send probes to check all of them.

>> No.6371522

If there's no life in the solar system, why not transplant life on planets?

Surely there must be some form of life we could put in the oceans of Europa?

I mean what would be wrong with putting some species of fish in the oceans of Europa, if they could survive there?

>> No.6371531

>>more-primitive-than-bacteria
>I don't believe it is your subject.

What I mean is, bacteria themselves are very complex. They have a whole complicated protein-transcription system, hundreds of genes, multilayered membranes, an enormously complex metabolism ...

Whatever the very first life looked like, it must have been simpler still. Perhaps it had no proteins, and ran entirely on ribozymes or something. Maybe it had only RNA, not DNA.

>> No.6371533

>do you think that there is life else where within our solar system?
No, I don't. I think this wild goose chase needs to end. We should be focusing our resources on ISRM, infrastructure development and hopefully eventual colonization of the Solar System, instead of checking under every fucking rock on Mars for something that's not there.

>> No.6371566

>>6367965
no idea. I hope we will find life in my lifetime, but that's my optimistic side. Who knows. We will only find out through exploration and discovery, do let's keep looking out there.

>colonization of the solar system
>zero or negative value; completely pointless

>understanding the history of the solar system

I'll be honest, the cost/benefit equation works out way in favor of NASA's current strategy compared to your sci-fi wet dreams.

No more overpopulation issues due to the resources in spaces,oh and there's no EPA in space....not that pumping emissions into spaces would be an issue.

If humans could make it cheap as hell to get crap into space, garbage wouldn't be an issue anymore.

If we're going to build a space elevator,we're going to build many due to nations wanting one.

What's wrong with getting rid of the industrial waste in space?
In space you could get rid of or store atomic waste.

I bet alot of governments would pay billions/trillions to get rid of ALL of their garbage that's stored.

>> No.6371665

>>6371653
I dunno about that. I think there would just be one joint effort. Kind of like the ISS. Of course, once you build one, there's really no reason NOT to build more.

And there's nothing WRONG with interplanetary dumping, it's just...
We have this really big hole that's not doing anything. Why not just chuck it all in the Grand Canyon?

1.There would be far too much demand for the space elevator, for ONLY a single one to be build.
look at how big of a demand there is for access to the Hubble telescope. .

2.Speaking about the Hubble, more than one was built.

3.Technology advances quickly.

Once the technology is there and proven, there will be a race to build improved versions.
Companies would also line up to buy up the old ones as well.

4.There would be far too much demand for the space elevator, for ONLY a single one to be build.
look at how big of a demand there is for access to the Hubble telescope. .

5.A space elevator would also make rockets obsolete over night. Who would want to use a rocket after the space elevator?

6.Access to rare earth minerals is a national security and economical issue.
Nationals will want their own secure access to the minerals that make their smart weapons work.

The grand canyon is a popular tourist attraction that makes alot of money.
Environmentalist and the general population would flip out.

There would be a long line of environmentalist who would love to be a
inter-galactic trash man.
Would you love to be a galactic garbage scow captain?
