ok good. i was kinda worried that i would lose my medical license, i think i forgot to take out the scalpel out of the patient before stitching him up. anyway i just wanted to know what my options were. thanks x

But you wouldn't lose your medical license over leaving an instrument in the patient. As a matter of fact it is pretty common for that to happen unfortunately. Now, that being said you will get a board review and the longer you've practiced/been a surgeon the less lenient they'll be with you. Then again maybe you shouldn't be a surgeon, if after all the cadaver lessons you went through in med school still didn't ingrain "check all equipment" in your skull.

French 4th-year medfag here. I just got out from a public health exam . Half of the clinical cases were about notions that were not even taught in class. And it's not the first time my teachers do that. Our neurology exam in October solely consisted in a clinical case about... a congenital cataract (the teacher talked about it for literally five minutes in class).

Anyway, I'm not through yet, I still have a Geriatrics/Handicap/Palliative care exam tomorrow. Wish me luck !

go into something you love for undergrad. If that's Biomedical Engineering than go for it. Just make sure you do well in it.

70% of the resume piles that Medical Schools read through are Biology and Biomedical Engineering students. Medical Schools around the country have mentioned on multiple occasions that it doesn't matter what you major in for undergrad. I majored in History and got into Medical School. I've worked with Psychology, Music, History, Chemistry, Physics students, you name it.

If Biomedical Engineering is something you love, then go for it. Just don't automatically think just because you majored in BME that you'll do well in Medical School. I know plenty of bright Engineering students that didn't do very well on their MCAT or in medical school.

OK, I'll admit it. There are a lot of bullshit papers out there in the medical literature. This is pretty hardcore bullshit, no doubt. When I was in the preclinical phase of the course, I had to read 20-page long papers whose conclusions were basically

>If a patient doesn't communicate their complain/concerns to a physician, the physician would not be able to address it in the context of a clinical consultation

No fucking shit, Sherlock.

Medicine is unique amongst sciences in that there are a bunch of non-technical people who have a stake and a say in the field and there are a bunch of qualified doctors who are quite clearly sub par. In most other sciences, the sub-par lot would have been scrambled fairly quickly, but there are so many low-demand, low-consequence fields for these individuals to slide into and/or they take up "education", "social" or "managerial" positions. They effectively dilute the perceived quality of the profession. In mathematics or physics, or chemical sciences, you don't really have the same issues as you don't have equivalent positions for individuals to slide into
