I'm not that guy but I have that problem too. Especially when it's something with diagrams and shit like graph theory.

do you use the built in vector graphic plugin?
I started using GraphViz (via PyDot) for graphs recently and I know there's a LaTeX module as well.

I write my LaTeX in text files using Kate (like notepad++, but linux). I don't have a set way of making graphics. In the past I've done everything from drawing them on the printed page, drawing them on a touchpad, using something like geogebra, and I've set up xfig but jesus that program is from the 80s.
