ISON's magnitudo is lowering. Core probably disintegrated. Have a nice day.

Cosmology is pseudo-science guesswork based very loosely on measurement.

Scientist A: " We picked up the signal from the heavenly body and it appears to be blue shifted!"
Scientist B:"Great! that means it has evolved to its true form!"

Scientist A:"No, it means that it is closer to us!"

Scientist C:"You are all wrong, it means that it has done a whole barrel roll."

Are you sure? When there's a core dispersal like that, there's a good chance that a LOT of volatiles are spilled out into the vacuum, so that should give at least a burst of increased albedo. After a time the dispersal would decrease the density, so that even increased interaction with the solar wind couldn't produce more light.

Too bad. For once I was actually up before dawn and tried to see the comet. Found Mercury and Saturn all right, but ISON was nowhere to be seen, though it should have been just below them.

Story:

Michal Drahus

Hi All,
Comet ISON has been closely monitored at the IRAM millimeter telescope in
Spain by Israel Hermelo (IRAM Granada) and myself (Caltech/NRAO) for the
last 6 days. We observe consistent, rapid fading of the molecular emission
lines between Nov. 21 and Nov. 25 by at least a factor of 20 (likely
more). This may indicate that the nucleus is now at best marginally active
or that... it no longer exists.

Regards,
Michal

three days from perihelion :(

Unless you have binoculars you would not be able to see it. It will only be visible after surviving perihelion.

God dammit I just read an article on it and I got all excited.
