1. If a person has $40,000 left over after taking away 25% of their total salary, how much was their initial salary? Yes I know this is retardedly simple, but I don't know the equation and the answer is eluding me.

2. If a person has $60,000 left over after taking away 28% of their total salary, how much was their original salary?

>Inb4 homework.
It's not. I just need the answers and I'd like to learn the equation for getting the answers.

y = original salary

1. y - (y x 0.25) = $40,000
0.75 y = $40 000
y = $40,000/0.75
y = $53,333

Use the same method for 2

40,000/75*100

60000/72*100

do -1% of initial percantage
for example, if i take away 10 of $192 ill have 172.8, however if i add 9% of what i already have ill get my original money

1. The 40.000 is 75% and you want to know 100% so devide by 75 and * by 100 wich is about 53.333 etc i think?

You should be able to do the 2nd now

>I don't know the equation

That's your problem right there, you shouldn't have to *know* the equation, it should be second nature. This is the simplest kind of reasoning, if you can't figure this out on your own, you should quit now, buddy.
