Scientific discussion of aliens.

Don't believe in them? Then go to another thread.

If you have to believe in them, it's not scientific.

You don't have to believe gravity either. Doesn't mean it's not real.

>> No.5998351

I don't believe they visited here, but I believe somewhere far far away there is some planet with life still either on early evolution or not advanced like us.

One thing that bothers me is why is nature a thing?

>> No.5998355

Imagine how amazing it would be if we're alone in the universe. The fact of the matter is that, if other lifeforms exists in other stars, they'll never know about us, we'll cease to exist before.

>> No.5998359

>>5998351
What if that civilization is 10,000 more advanced than us? That's very probable beacuse 10,000 is not a lot of time. It would be safe to assume they have found a way to produced large amounts of energy. It would be safe to assume that they have found a way to travel faster than light. Denying either of these means that you believe that current knowledge of science and math is almost complete, which suborn scientists have been thinking since the dawn of civilization, making it hard for people like Einstein to think differently. Anyways, life really is rare and it's very safe to assume that they would be monitoring it like we do with endangerd species.

That not why I belive that they have visited earth though. There is real/undeniable evidence for it.

>> No.5998364

You mean goo in the corner of some planet or aliens raping hicks.

>> No.5998368

>travel faster than light
We're talking physics laws here. A photon has the ability to travel that fast, whereas an atom hasn't. Unless teleportation is a thing through entanglement, no faster speeds can be achieved.

On the other hand, nature is a psychedelic world. I imagine an alien planet would be as random and as weird as ours, but the probability of it being like ours is very very small. This is why I hate alien related movies.

>> No.5998375

>>5998364
Multiple alien species visiting earth. Pre WW2 accounts are open to speculation but after we set of the nukes there has been a ton of credible and non-contradicting evidence. There has also been mis information but its easy to distinguish from the real stuff.

Even on earth there are several species that are functionally immortal, alien physiology (or just good old fashioned genetic manipulation) could make time a non-issue, allowing to travel here under the speed of light

Another way is moving the universe around the ship, drawing a blank on what that theory is called but it'd allow us to bypass the no going over the speed of light rule

You also have to consider the fact that we're constantly learning new sruff andcit's stupid-bordering-on-arrogant to say "X can't be done" when we know so little

Look folks, about the only thing that differentiates Sol from the rest of the G-type stars is that it's unusually stable. The Kepler probe proved that.

Other than our unusually stable sun, there's nothing else about Sol or Earth that makes them unique in the universe. There should be plenty of Sols and Sol-like stars, orbited by Earths or Earth-like planets. That being the case, it's altogether likely that life has arisen elsewhere in the universe, even in this galaxy. We use the Drake Equation to get some idea of the range of likelihoods.

The pic is from the Phoenix lights incident. Even the former governor came out about it. Flares? Nope.
There's a shitton of other evidence but you people always dismiss it as rednecks mistaking airplanes for ufo despite the fact that most of these sightings are from poilets and government officials.

Instead of looking at the actually evidence you people assume that it's impossible to travel ftl beacuse apparently there's not much discoveries left in science. That's a horrible attitude for STEM fags. You're ignoring facts beacuse it doesn't fit into your world view, so you formulate your opinion without giving it a second thought. Not even a first thought.

How can they keep it a secret?
130,000 people worked on the manhattan project. It's all about a need to know basis.

Why would the government keep this a secret?

Pretend le aliums come here. They share technology and ideas.
That's it for the military complex, no one has to fight for oil anymore. That's it for the energy companies(which is the most profitable buissnes in human history). That's it for all religions.

Why haven't the aliens just landed I the White House and helped us. They could easily overpower our military.

Maybe it has something to do with us sending fighter poilets after them everytime they entered earths atmosphere. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that human have been manipulated to fight wars for causes that don't begin it them at all. Maybe it has something to do with non intervention. When biologists study animals, they hide behind bushes. If a loin is about to kill a baby deer, they don't help it. They film it.

I don't have all the answers but that doesn't mean I'm gonna ignore the facts.

Are you really this fucking retarded? The Drake Equation is a tool. It can be used to test the bounds of your guesses. It gives you some idea of how much or how little. Data tends to improve over time. For example, we have a much better idea now how often solar systems form with planets.

Thousands of hours of radar recordings complimented by pilot sightings = bollocks

Thousands of military confirming cover up for national security = bollocks for sure

Ex congress admit it's clear if they go near the subject their jobs would be in danger = bullshit

Astronauts and cosmonauts talking about structures in space, being tailed by craft, and not being able to talk about it while being recorded during the missions= they just want to sell books obviously

Canadian Minister of Defense talking about the cover up and how the United States would come over the border to pick up downed UFOs= That old idiot has lost his marbles

Governments all around the world releasing tens of thousands of once classified ufo documents that go into detail on craft that they've yet to explain= They're definitely our secret craft

Same phenomena has been going on in sightings since before we thought flight was possible= mass hallucinations and swamp gas

You're right what was I thinking.

Fair enough, and I only use the first 4 factors of the Drake Equation, since they're the ones best known and most pertinent for what I'm looking for: Life in the universe, regardless of form, capability and span.

1: R* = avg number of star formation per year in our galaxy
2: fp = fraction that have planets
3: ne = fraction that can support life
4: fl = fraction that DO develop life

You can see immediately that even for pessimistic, low numbers for your guesses, over billions of years, we end up with a lot of worlds with life on them.

Hence (pessimistic):

R* x fp x ne x fl
7 x 0.9 x 0.05 x 0.05
= 0.016 life-bearing planets per year
= 1 life-bearing planet every 64 years
= 1.6 M life-bearing planets every 100M years
= 72 M life-bearing planets while Earth exists

They're guesses. I've already admitted that. But they're educated guesses. Ongoing research has established the 7-stars-a-year number. The Kepler probe among other observatories have established that almost all stars have systems. The two other numbers are guesses, but again educated ones based upon observations and our own solar system. Don't like those? Then choose more pessimistic numbers. You still arrive at a large number of life-harboring planets in the galaxy over geological time scales.

That's the way to bet, therefore.

Now get lost, rube. The idea that you can't make decisions on incomplete information is the hallmark of some little 14-yr-old idiot (you) in front of his porn machine. Information itself is by definition *incomplete*. Shades of grey dominate ADULT thinking. You'll find out once you start growing pubic hair.

If you would have bothered to do ANY research into the claim, you would have found that the lights are actually flares. The reason they "Went off" after awhile is because they fell behind a mountain that you can't see in the background. They actually went to the guy who filmed this and asked to film it in the same place during the day with the same camera, and guess what? The mountain is aligned perfectly to where it would explain why the flares disappeared in the order they did. Also there are no videos from any other angle, they're always shot in the same direction. Next time you want to insist something to be true, fucking research it. God damn people coming on here thinking they're going to make the scientific community have some revelation that aliens visited us are fucking annoying.

If intelligent life is at all common or even just rare... where is it? Why are we here? Even without FTL we could colonize every start in the galaxy in only tens of millions of years. The galaxy is many times older than that. So... why hasn't the Earth been long since colonized? Why can't we detect anybody out there?

Personally, I think intelligent life is probably rare enough that it doesn't arise more than once in any given galaxy, much less become interstellar.

>Officials at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., would report that no military maneuvers were taking place that night at the Barry M. Goldwater Range to the west. (Air Force officials would change their story two months later, saying the person on duty that night failed to look at the proper logbook.)

>The lights were flares, said the Air National Guard, dropped during nighttime exercises at the Barry M. Goldwater Range.

>That's what they were, insists Lt. Col. Ed Jones, who piloted one of the four A-10s in the squadron that he says launched the flares.

Jones, in his first interview with the news media concerning the night 10 years ago, says he can't believe a decision to eject a few leftover flares turned into a UFO furor that continues to this day.

>He now is assistant director of operations for the 104th Fighter Squadron of the Maryland National Guard.

Where does it say that he "recorded it while flying" or that he "reproduced the effect"? Source or you're just plain lying.

If you've seen the video of the Phoenix lights, they are not descending at all. They are hovering. Video analysis has also proven conclusively that the lights in the Phoenix Lights videos, from different sources and angles, are not the same luminescence videos taken of night time flares. Anyone who saw this most recent flare drop around Feb 6th also saw how dramatically different these were from the Phoenix Lights array. They were distinctly flickering, golden or amber colored lights which fell at different heights (staggered) and smoke was clearly visible rising from them, illuminated by the flares themselves. Flares also do not cause people to see an enormous V-shaped object, among other unidentified objects, obscuring the starry sky, as many reported earlier that evening of March 1997.

The universe is about 14 billion years old, the earth about 4 billion and human civilisation is maybe 300,000 years old. Humans have had the ability to detect things far off in space for about 100 years.
The universe is so UNBELIEVABLY MASSIVE and we've been here for such a brief fraction of that time that even if aliens looked at our planet the odds of them spotting us are tiny.

That's all based on the existence of earth/humans, an assumption which suffers from observation bias.

If 1/8 planets didn't have intelligent life nobody would be around to ponder a "drake equation."

The fact is there's only one data point for a planet with life. We cannot draw any meaningful conclusion from just one point.

Quantum Theory has evidence supporting it. You can do tests that show results and quantum physics was developed as an attempt to explain those phenomena, which it does with high accuracy just not 100% accuracy which is why we need to perfect it. However we do know there is a quantum level of existence beyond the atomic level, and it has been confirmed numerous times. There may even be a sub-quantum level but there is no evidence of it.

Dark matter is the name we gave to a phenomena thats cause has not yet been discovered but we know is there because we can make observations consistently of it's effects. We know virtually nothing about it, just that it's there.

In addition I think you got quantum theory screwed up with string theory. Which as of now is truly unproven. However the discovery of the higgs boson has helped credit it as it was hypothesized before it's discovery thanks to scientists like higgs.

Also don't fucking confuse string theory and the multiverse theory. The multiverse theory has almost no evidence supporting it, and is often confused for string theory.
