I'm trying to learn myself some mechanical and a little aerospace engineering. I'm looking for textbooks regarding mechanical engineering, statics and structures, materials science, physics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and dynamics.

Any recommendations?

Money and employment aren't issues for me, I have taken care of those.

I do however love building shit. I want to start designing and building ultralight and sport aircraft for fun and a little profit. I have some first year general engineering and drafting/CAD knowledge but I'm just trying to expand my horizons.

Hey OP, go for it. Learn what you need/want to know. A couple things - university websites to check the courses and see what the required books are. Also associations like Society for Manufacturing Engineers (sme dot org).

Then (as you probably know) put together your business model, hire some engineers for fine tuning (engineers of the non-butthurt varity. they do exist. No, really, they do...) and make a fortune.
