Brain Hacks?

What are some natty and safe chemica ways to improve cognitive powers, concentration, arousal and memory?

I've tried ritalin and provigil and they are amazing but I don't want to use them long-term. Are any nootropics actually effective? I've tried some racetams and they suck compared to prov

Try piracetam. It has been demonstrated in well-replicated studies to have improvements on short-term memory and also various neuroprotective effects. Anecdotally, many users report a greater sense of mental clarity after taking it as well.

This is a really dumb mentality to have.
It's like saying someone who has good genetics won't benefit from steroids. They will. The brain is a machine organ that runs off chemicals just like all your other organs, it can be improved or damaged chemically.

Anyway back on topic.

>The BMC study used a MRI to scan the brains of subjects who practiced Tetris for 30 minutes a day. They compared these images to the MRIs of people who had not practiced Tetris at all. In the experimental group, the researchers found that the subjects’ gray matter had thickened, leading them to believe that the game is responsible for physical cognitive development that should (in theory) also improve things like memory capacity. In effect, playing Tetris allows your brain to operate more efficiently.

No, it's not. The important bit there is that "brain steroids" do not exist in any meaningful non-placebo capacity, and sufficiently intelligent people can discern this from the available information and thus realize that the action of pursuing "brain-steroids" has negative utility.

When a healthy person takes ritalin or provigil they are essentially taking a brain stimulant since their alertness, focus, ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and even memory are improved as a result.

I've taken them and the results are extremely obvious. They won't magically boost your IQ, but steroids won't magically put muscle on you either, you still need to work and eat and use them properly.

Paul Erdos used speed to improve his math abilities. He stopped taking it for a month and said his output dramatically fell and math suffered as a result.

So yes there are brain steroids.

They are essentially taking a central nervous system stimulant. It acts like any other stimulant. It is not a miracle brain-booster, in any greater capacity than are amphetamines or a cup of coffee.

>> No.5868250

Erdös took Benzedrine or Ritalin almost every day for the last twenty five years of his life. Sometimes he took both.

Colleagues worried that Erdös might have become addicted. In 1979, he accepted a $500 bet from his friend Ronald Graham. Graham challenged Erdös to abstain from speed for 30 days. Erdös met the challenge, but his output sank dramatically. Erdös felt the progress of mathematics had been held up by a stupid wager.

And stimulants improve various cognitive functions, allowing one to learn more efficiently and longer.

> It is not a miracle brain-booster, in any greater capacity than are amphetamines or a cup of coffee.

If you know how to use amphetamines to study the performance increase they provide is way beyond anything coffee can do.

Coffee is to amphetamines what creatine is to test-e or Sustanon.

"Stimulants do much more than keep troops awake. They can also strengthen learning. By causing the direct release of norepinephrine — a close chemical relative of adrenaline — in the brain, stimulants facilitate memory formation. "

Are you trolling or this retarded?

Meditation is essentially the same as losing yourself in work you love. When you are doing something you love, you are basically meditating.

It's all about maximizing your ability to focus by being impervious to any and all distractions.

By purposely putting yourself in a careless and peaceful state on a regular basis you will gain the ability to recognize that state of mind where distraction and any form of hindering thoughts will be less and less frequent, increasing your over all ability to focus.

That's all meditation is. It's a mental exercise to assist you in your desire to be 100% of yourself at all times, without the influence of anything that can be classified as external.

Now you can use traditional meditation to assist your desire to be more focused, which can be as tedious as exercise...Or you can just always make sure you are doing something you love to do at any given moment.

Personally though I only use meditation when I'm beginning to get annoyed with everything around me, calms me down.

After that just give me a cup of coffee and I'm excited for whatever I feel like putting in front of me. It could be a text book or anything and I'm off learning at my own desired pace without it feeling like a race, soaking it all in and maximizing the entire experience.
