Just thought I'd share that (>inb4 pleb math)

that doesnt even make sense

lol OP obviously has some communication deficiency, clearly a manifestation of even larger problems.

What he's trying to say is that when you calculate sin and cosine in a unit circle you do so by drawing horizontal and vertical lines. These can be used to make a right triangle inside the unit circle with one corner on the unit circle and another at the origin. Using normal trig logic to calculate the tangent value in a triangle (the way it's taught to derpy highschoolers) you get the same thing as if you had calculated the slope of the line tangent to the circle at the exact point at which the corner of the triangle is lying on the circle.

dude that's fucking kindergarten stuff, sin 90 is 1 and cos 0 is 1

but it's still cool

are these used for anything

Back in the day when people had books of this shit computed to so many digits for different angles they would also compute those and people on boats and shit would use them, or at least that's the explanation I've heard. Now we just use sine, cosine, and tangent; if you're using anything else then you're either just being ironic or a hipster.

The were mostly used before calculators. Especially for navigation. The versine was actually once more popular than the sine.

taking Linear Algebra basically made me infinitely thankful we live in a world with calculators and computers

I cannot imagine actually computing values in an era where you had to do everything by hand with quill and ink and *candlelight*.

Doing matrix multiplication by hand? If I had to multiply more than one 4x4 matrix by hand in a time without computers I would INVENT ONE just to make sure I never had to do it again. Augh.

My high school class included an intro to matrices, and the teacher was insane.

He made us do a 5x5 for a test, as I remember...
