I've been told that most things in the arts have no substance and that Math is real art.

How full of bullshit is this statement?

Art's its thing and math's its thing. They're interrelated, but when people actually do one thing or the other, they often imagine a huge barrier between the two subjects. In any case, neither is more substantial than the other. Does it matter whether one field develops more than the other over ten years? How about a million years?
