There is a very popular Facebook page called I Fucking Love Science. I am sure many of you have heard of it, as it has nearly 3 million followers.

Recently it is very evident that they are using this popularity to spread sexist jokes and quotes bashing men.

What is your opinion, /sci/, on this and other groups using science - which attempts to draw conclusions in the most unbiased manner possible - as a means to help mainstream and encourage any particular bias. Science is popular these days, which do you think will overcome, the bias or the anti-bias?

In general: science in general is an attempt to be unbiased and find actual facts. what the hell is your opinion when someone highjacks something with a reputation for being unbiased in order to make biased claims more believable - whether it be feminists, religion, social engineers, etc. That is simply what I am asking.

after reading that page i am starting to see OP's concern. plebs will flock towards what is popular, plebs dont really get science but try to act like they do and unfortunately plebs can change things because they travel in large numbers. taking something like science which is intended to find facts and using it's credibility to spread a subjective message is blasphemous to what science is meant for. the posts OP was referring to are not insulting but it hurts the already pathetic credibility of the page and makes science look like a joke

I think it's a good page. Sure it's not the best for serious scientific debate and the jokes may lean to the sophomoric side I think it's a lot better than the other shit you'll find on facebook. On the positive side of things, maybe some of those "lol so nerdy XD" kids on there will continue seeing some of the more serious pictures and actually develop an appreciation for some of it. I'm not saying that the page will spawn any new astrophysicists, but a little more scientific literacy in the world couldn't hurt anything. Unless of course you guys enjoy have a super exclusive club with no lobbying power in government.
