If music is math, why haven't you written a symphony yet?

And do you honestly think beautiful music can be created solely by the use of mathematical ratios and formulas? With no prior musical experience and no creative outlook? And no love for the composing music?

Why are you posting copypasta?
Can't you write anything original?

Squarepusher created a his own code and computer program within that code when creating Ufubulum. Then he used algorithms to determine the wave forms of his synths.

OP can kindly get fucked, knows nothing about music. When Mozart hit k500 or so, he started throwing dice to determine his chord progressions. One of his symphonies is written so if you play it forward and backward at the same time, it creates harmony. Aphex Twin (Richard James Dean) is known for being an exceptional at math. Da Vinci was known for having a beautiful singing voice. Listening to Bach literally makes you fucking study better

Anyone who said music and science are not bro-status is retarded

I typed this out as it occurred to me.

Please show me a screenshot or some sort of proof that this is copypasta. Because if it is, I think I'm having visions.

I am not denying their relation. But I do not believe you can create beautiful music with nothing but math. You have to have some sort of musical mind to begin with.

So you believe that musicians can think mathematically, and mathematicians can think musically. Do you also think that math can be applied to music? If so, then what is the point?

Obviously someone who does not practice music, and doesnt listen to music with an analytical ear is not going to be any good at music

But I feel like there's a ton of people out there who think music is math and that's all there is to it.

Treat them the same as people who say, "Fuck math, all I need is art and music mang. Why learn things when you can feel things?"

*Humans are not insects. Specialization can be useful, but your mind is capable of absorbing more than one complex thing. The different things you know will inform each other, and you will be able to create more abstract and complicated connections in your mind

I have. Well, a couple of musicals and a suite of sonatas. Some of them have even been performed by professional organizations.

But it's nothing like math. Fugues, you might argue, if you consider automata math.

I've written a few fugues (maybe not strict Bachian fugues, but fugal in any case)
I'd barely call it math, in the sense that one applies transformations to a subject.
But that alone does not make it musical, tasteful, or worth listening to.

Mathematics is considered an art form by mathfags, also it requires tons of creativity. I believe this is the same as what you mean by "musical mind".

Adding a mathematical element to music makes it beautiful. Too much structure, and it loses its emotional impact. This is why Bach is the best musician to have walked the Earth: his music strikes the perfect balance. It features mathematical concepts such as recursion, transformation, Fibonacci sequence, etc, yet it retains all its musical beauty. Any more structure, and the music becomes dull and unemotional; any less and the music does not reflect enough of nature itself.

Well, the greeks created a series of modes in musical theory, by following these guidelines in the intrument, you could find scales that give certian emocional characteristics by compiling simple 1-4-5 chords.
