So i'm in a d&d campaign, and my character is in a situation where he is holding a rope about 10 feet from the ledge of a 20 foot pit. The pit is 10 feet across. My fellow adventurers are on the other side and I offered to hold onto this 20 foot rope as they attempt to jump across like I did. If they failed, I would be in an already ready position to start pulling them up from their fall. Sadly, the 1st jump whiffed hardcore and the DM i fell attempting to pull him up.
Here are the numbers: My weight 140 kg,
6'5" for height,
rope is considered waist level,
i'm supposively standing 60 degrees relative to the ground
(leaning back),
basically dirt for friction purposes
His weight, 90 kg,
was in free fall for 1 second i guess? the acceleration due to gravity is same as earth's.

So, the question is, did I fail to wistand the force and fell in, or did I pull him up?

In b4 virgin fag playing D&D. It is fun. Pic not related

Is this the situation you are describing?
Length of (red) rope is 20ft
Is 60 degrees the angle the rope makes with the vertical where you are holding it?

>level, race, class, feats etc faggot!
more so these things might effect the gameplay.
example
>lvl 13fighter with 7 lvls in monk punches a lvl 3 npc
what the fuck do think will happen!?
>roll attack dmg, due to auto hit against him, str+base atk+ dex+ roll=damage.
NPC was struck so hard his skeleton poped out of his physical structure.
>you crit
he dissipated because you hit him so hard his atoms stoped vibrating because even they felt the blow.

so post stats op.

sorry, OP here. Hope i didnt lose you guys. My strength score is 20 (+5 modifier), meaning i can lift a 400 lb item above my head, if that helps. He is trying to swing across, and hopefully plant his feet on my side of the pit. The DM says the shock force through the rope is somehow in the 15k of Newtons... da fuck? The way i see it his kinetic energy couldnt possibly reach that high unless he was falling for seconds. In this case, I believe this all happens within under a second... 1/2*90kg*3 or 4 m/s? wat.

that is kind of what i mean, yes. the rope is 20 feet, but i am not that far from the ledge. More like 5 feet. the way i see it, his feet should plant on the pit before the force becomes too difficult for me to withstand.

<span class="math">v=\frac 12 at^2=\frac 12 \times 9.8\times 1 = 4.9ms^{-1}
<span class="math">E=\frac 12 mv^2 = \frac 12 \times 90\times 4.9^2 = 1080J
Now you just have to compare the torque induced by this energy with your weight torque.
