Do you think if past scientists and inventors were alive today they would embrace the "free and open source" ideology?

Also, how does /sci/ feel about software patents and the current patent trolling and patent wars going on with big name companies right now?

Probably not, most of the big inventors were motivated by money and bitches.

Why didnt Tesla go to the Solvay Conferences?

Answer:
Because he was a dumbass compared to actual scientists.

>> No.5318349

I'm sure they would. Scientists are generally people who are looking for the truth. Once that truth is found, they want it shared with everyone. It isn't meaningful to find out a new law of the universe and then not tell anyone. On the whole, scientists try to make their information and knowledge as accessible as possible.

Also fuck these companies patenting absolute shit that shouldn't be patented. Soon Apple will have patented the rectangle and say no one else can make their phone the same shape.

We've had democracy for a long time. They were free to lobby against patents as much then as now.

This. Past inventors are well known to have been massive capitalists and money lovers. Generally.

Edison (even if one could call him an actual inventor, not a thief) is a good example.

Didn't Tesla used to mock Einstein?

Edison, he mocked Edison.

I knew that, but I remember him calling Einstein a fool or something like that for his theory on special relativity.

Yes. Because Tesla eventually went Batshit Crazy.

Yes. Tesla, though a brilliant inventor, could not into theoretical physics and he thought they were all con artists.
