as a general rule, to be a top scientist you have to be comfortable spending a lot of time alone...

Eysenck's Arousal Theory suggests that introverted people need less stimulation to reach their optimal arousal level, which is best for cognitive functions. So yes, I guess introversion would be helpful for activities with little stimulation.

However, transmarginal inhibition can occur when the optimal arousal level is exceeded and reverse the effect.

Why, would you look at that? An actual SCIENTIFIC answer to a question.
Also /thread.

No.

This belief is caused by the myth that brilliant mathematicians were very antisocial. This is simply not the case. Many of the best mathematicians and scientists were very social people. Take Feynman for example. He was an outgoing and charming person and had one of the best minds for physics in recent times.

Besides, it's more beneficial to be outgoing as a scientist. Science is all about networking. People who don't want to work with other people usually do poorly in science.

It's not really a matter of introversion or extroversion, it's more like those who know don't talk while those to talk don't know. This is quite true when you go out and interact socially and always hear people speaking out of their ass about topics they clearly don't know much about.

To people who use the scientific method in their lives to analyze things constantly and question and requestion things, we oftentimes don't want to speak of things we haven't confirmed for ourselves or unendingly argue with people who simply will never understand or even try to understand you.

Introverted behavior has the potential to breed other mental negative habits that would have a detrimental effect on your ability to learn and think.

A smart man does everything he can to reasonably improve his learning capability. You are only handicapping yourself by being introverted.

You kind of have to be an introvert to do toptier science these days.

I think Introverted People are inclined to do science because they might like reading as a hobby so they might read science books.

Also someone who is an introvert will most likely prefer a career where they do not have to speak to people all day like sales.

My reason for doing science is because I'm probably an aspie and I don't have the social skills or don't want to be social when it comes to jobs. However I still like talking to people but not too much.

You shouldn't rely on the media to inform you of cutting edge research...

>> No.5303727 [DELETED]

It is indeed a false positive in what you believe to believe that introverts perform better.

The truth of the matter is that any introvert who does perform better in your opinion than any extrovert would be better at what they do were they extroverted.

However it depends on how you use that extroverted nature.

When you hang around people who are as good or better than you at what you're trying to learn, you pick up things a lot quicker. A lot.

You can even argue that being extroverted helps you work while you're being introverted, because all those positive clues you picked up from those other smart people who were helping you will be helping you while you work alone.

No, they aren't. That's just another theory that came out of a circlejerk between introverts. Hurr durr we're the ones who get best grades in science our brains must be superior.

No, they aren't. You simply spend more effort/time on grades while others spend it on sports, girls or whatever. And it's fucking school science. Getting an A doesn't mean that you're the most inteligent person in the world and the NASA should be hiring you right now, motherfocker.

Once you get to university, or an actual job, you'll realise how wrong you were and how useless is to know something (if you even know it) if you can't make another person believe you, trust you or support you.

every actor knows the quieter he is, the closer he can be to himself. when you play Shakespeare in close-up, in a film, and have a mike, and can really speak the verse, as quietly as this, you are not going against the nature of verse. you're going in the right direction, because you're allowing the verse to be a man speaking his inner world. this language is the language of thoughts. there are very few actors who can speak loud and still be truthful. that's the actor's problem.

See if that's the case then it is directly contradicted in higher levels of physics by not gently easing people into the theorems instead of the terms just getting droppped onto & then they burn out x receptor & lose that problem solving style of just taking a little bit from everywhere when their jumpstart for immaginative thinking gets overiden or cut out of their function premise entirely do to the fact that the constant overdrive of the many notations simply contradicted the impulse to bring more formuli into the equation
