/sci/, help me decide, these are the classes which I have a choice in taking for my computer science majors extra science or math elective
Other than this I am taking: Art 400 Model Drawing (I am an art double major), CompSci 352 Software Engineering, Math 295 Discrete Mathematics I
I don't want such a hard course load that I can't handle it. I suck at maths and science, really.

Here are my options:
>Physics I
>Organismal Biology
>Chemistry I

>> No.5228540

basic chem will be esaier then basic bio.

>> No.5228546

Bio is just stamp collecting.

Physics 1

>CS major
>sucks at math

how's that working out for ya?

>> No.5228552

I just want it as a backup job because my passions are film and art... computer programming isn't too bad, but math makes me freeze up and have panic attacks.

>art major
>taking 3rd year cs and considering physics

all of my wat

From my experience:

Physics: Applicable and fun if you enjoy math a bit. It involves more algebra and trig than anything else. (Although your course may also involve a bit of calc as well)

Bio: Memorization. Lots of it. Enjoyable, though, because it's sorta neat to learn about how organisms work at the molecular level. If it has a lab portion, those can be pretty fun too,

Chem - Can't speak to it. Taking it next semester. Also seems like a lot of memorization.

>> No.5228587

All science is either Physics or stamp collecting.

Trig is my nightmare... I got an F in it first try, so I took the super condensed 5 week version and managed a C+. I don't understand any of it.

sciene major here-
chemistry is hard as shit, but the first few classes are just memorization. The highest math it goes usually is like Algebra 2 unless youre a chem/biochem major.
biology is legitimately, stamp collecting.

>> No.5228762

Biology is going to be the easiest out of the three, low levels will be entirely conceptual, so it will almost entirely memorization based. I really enjoy Physics, but it will be the most math intensive out of the three if you aren't really into that. Chemistry I will suck because basic Chemistry is really fucking boring and revolves around memorizing formulas that you can plug numbers into so you can get another set of numbers.

I would recommend Biology, but I'm also a Bio major so I'm a tad bit biased.

Physics goes the best with CS because it is the most mathy. But, sense you suck at math, it'll be harder for you.

>> No.5228790

>>5228779
Let me quantify this: the hardest math in physics 101 is integration by parts. If you can do that, you can do the math in physics.

>> No.5228852

>>5228790
I don't even know what that is

>Chemistry I
Basically slightly more rigorous HS chemistry with little in terms of new material. Stuff doesn't get interesting until Gen Chem II. If your not going to take the second semester, there's no point really.

Take physics I, easy and it gives you problem solving skills and improves your math skills; two things CS majors typically are <span class="math"> \bf SEVERELY [/spoiler] lacking in.

For me chem 1 got a lot harder towards the end of the semester.

Yeah, I am.
It's also that I simply don't care enough about math to spend any time on it whatsoever. I'm more of an artsy fag who'd rather waste time on paintings.
Maybe if a math problem came up that's more meaningful than "how much force must you apply to a boat on a ramp to keep it from falling in the water?"
