For the mechanical engineers, if you cant explain this shit, how the hell did you even get accepted in the uni?

The effectiveness of milling technique in producing stepped diameters on components. Evaluate it tome.

pic related.

>> No.5221144

Components with stepped diameters are (typically) produced on a lathe, not a mill.

Also, ask a question that makes sense.

'evaluate the effectiveness of milling technique in producing stepped diameters on a component'

Aha! You have a book? This gives me an idea!

come on man, stop with the doubles. its not fun anymore.

Your point?

Don't you want to create your own dream robot that fucking protects you when you are in a fight with the imperialists.

I'm a lab tech at my school, mostly everyone I've seen here, except for my supervisor and coworkers, knows fuckall what to do when you put them on a lathe or a mill (This includes professors and teaching aides that allegedly teach manufacturing processes).

You will NOT learn machining at an engineering school. If you want to learn machining, go to a trade school.

>> No.5221350

>>5221310
Thats strange, you start out mechanical engineering, directly after a-levels right, so no knowledge is known in the machining sector.
How the fuck are you able to handle it if you've never used that shit?
Thats right, at some stage you should've had lessons about it, and machining falls under it.

>> No.5221377

>>5221350
You really don't get experience with machining at all in most mechanical engineering undergrad programs. You take a course in machining techniques where you learn about lathes, mills, etc. but you don't do much with it first hand.

I got a master's in MechE and I don't know how to build shit. I wish I did, but I don't because I never had to (other than some really basic stuff for senior design). I do know a lot about control theory, though. And electronics.

>> No.5221386

>>5221350
I'm able to handle it because I went to school for machining and I worked as a machinist for a while before starting engineering school.

You will get taught a few things about machining at an engineering school, but that's not even scratching the surface on what you need to know to hold your own in the shop (In other words, nothing).

>>5221377
Holy shit, thats fucked up man.
Since you've done your masters in mechE, you could tell me how it is, because I want to do masters in it too.
Did you get a decent job? How much do you earn?
Can you work out your fantasy shit? I mean dreams you've had when you were a child, like creating awesome shit because I want to make my dreams come true. And Ive had a dozen of them but for those I require mechE. Or is it tightassed and you are there doing nothing but sucking up to the boss for a promotion?

>>5221386
wow, that actually amazes me.

A milling machine's power is all transferred to the tool’s tip, if the depth of cut exceeds that part the tool shall have a hard time cutting the component and will shake heavily which makes the cut worse and thus results in a damaged tool and a badly cut component.

How about this?

It is the same way in California. I majored in civil and we really did not build much; small discrete things yes, but no finished commercial structures. We did lots of MATLAB, Solid Works, and finite element analysis. We never welded and I did not really learn shit in surveying. I could do the stuff on paper, but no way in hell I go out and survey a building site.

I honestly thought I would be able to build my own house from scratch. My friend went to Cal State Northridge and they do lots of hands on stuff and built a single story office type building.
