... If one were to to have a brain transplant after death, assuming we had the technology to reconnect all nerves, arteries, corpus callosum, cns etc.. Would you be you in another body?
Putting aside the motor pattern dysfunctions that would arise due to being in a now body, is this a valid theory for immortality?

How outside of the realm of possibility is this after-death transplant to sustain life?

>> No.5142192

Yes.
Your brain is "you"

No, because your brain is also getting older. With good genes you might enjoy some decades of youthful new life, but eventually neurogenerative disorders would screw you over.
With bad genes you'll die because of alzheimers, and moving a broken brain to a shiny new body won't do shit.

That's stupid. There is no scientific definition of "you".
When someone loses a part of their brain in an accident, you still identify him as the same person, he just lost some mental functions.

Well, the cause of death would have to have nothing to do with the brain, and the whole thing would have to be completed in less than a few minutes after death, or else it will damaged beyond repair

Will the new bodies shiny metabolasm not accelerate tissue anabolism in the brain/neurplasticity replacing the old tissues with new and well functioning tissues?

The brain contains your memories, expertise and defines most of your personality. You know what he meant, you're just a nitpicker.
Or you want to build a case for dualism in which case you're just retarded.

To some extent a new body may help, but given that the whole idea is based upon super advanced medicine we could probably use stem cell therapies and telomerase regeneration to close whatever age accumulated deficiences the brain have, the question then would be; why not just use the same regenerative therapy for the whole body and skip the transplant surgery.

I believe after a long period of time, mutagens will have taken their toll on genes, disabling them from being able to express themselves well enough to function

Well sure if you define "you" as what is in your brain, then obviously transplanting to another body would put in another body.
I'm not building a case for dualism, it's just that it's a shitty tautology.

Because OP wants to change sex at will, I suppose.

Also yeah, changing sex and having your brain in a bath of whole new hormones would change your personality a pretty big deal.
