Hi /sci/.

A few days ago a lecturer in chemistry drew this molecule on the blackboard and asked the class what we thought it's function was. He was really mysterious about it, and didn't give us any hints or useful information.

Now I want to find out what this molecule is and what is does, but I'm having a hard time doing so.

Does anyone recognize it or have any ideas how/where I can look it up? I've tried to google molecules with Europium and various of the other elements in the hope that it would limit the search but I can't seem to find this specific one.

it's either a luminescent molecular probe, a laser dopant material, or an organic luminescent material for things like OLEDs. probably one of the latter two, that thing doesn't look water soluble enough to be useful in biological applications.

i couldn't find the exact molecule in the five minutes i spent researching this, but here's a good general article on some of these things:
http://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlehtml/2010/cp/b920448b

basically, it's definitely a lanthanide complex for luminescence, and the organic structure around it is tailored to be more optimal for some specific application. idk, you can probably find it if you search with more technical terms in this area, not my area of expertise
