/sci/, I have a challenge

Can you fix Art degrees to be useful and practical?

The main problem is grade inflation. If Art degres were challenging, they would teach students to think and hence be plenty useful. Unfortunately as long as you can bullshit and pass that's not going to happen.

A degree in art isn't necessarily bad. I'm replying to this post as if it were serious. You could take the required courses, and seek out a graduate degree in science. I had a friend who got a B.A. in Sociology, took a few extra classes, and then went to get a MSc in Computer Science.

Now, he co-owns a business doing IT consulting, repair, and sales. In two years, they have grown pretty large, too.

Ewwww. Not op, but I wish people would label that as Computer Information Specialist. To me, a computer science guy is someone that can actually program and understands hex, binary, and decimal well enough to write in Assembly.

I would say the degree you have is one of a handfull of things that determine your success; others being your tenacity, actual knowledge of field (which few degrees actually equate to), experience, etc.

How did you suddenly infer that from my post? I just stated "computer science" but I never stated anything that he studied.

You'll be happy to know that he has done a lot of things with database recovery and overhaul, archaic COBOL, and a plethora of other things. But, you know, way to jump to conclusions.

>>5025721
I'm not hating on him. He's just not computer science. COBOL is like you labeled archaic, and very simple. And you're also suggesting he's really good at putting things in file cabinets.

Understanding hex, binary, etc isn't computer science., ts computer programming.Comp sci has to do with algorithms and logic and much much more. I'm sick and tired of this mix up

Architecture, Transportation Design, Product Design.

But seriously, with art majors it's less about the degree/papers and more about your portfolio.
