Can you smart fellows help me break down this problem please step by step? Dumb it down as much as you can, pretend you are explaining this to a chimpanzee (you kind of are). I want to understand this stuff before I move on to harder problems. THanks for any help and hope you enjoy the proffesional paint skills i employed to make your job just a little bit easier. Will check back in a few

Thanks anon.

op here... also I used mathway( . ) com to get the answer (great calculator they have) but unfortunately you have to pay to see how they got the answer. Thats where I hope you fine gentlemen will come in handy. Also if you know any sites that can do simple algebra equations like this (simplifying) and show the work for free I would be in your debt (sharpie in pooper?... shoe on head?) i tried wolfram and they dont really explain it that well.

I'm too lazy to right it down in latex and otherwise you won't be able to read shit, so: All you have here is multiplication and division of exponents, so you can just apply the simple rules (x^a)^b = x^a*b, 1/x^a = x^-a and x^a * x^b = x^a+b and sum everything together and get
x^(2*1/3 +2/3 -2/3)*y^(1/3+2*2/3-2/3) =
x^(2/3)*y^1

tried wolframalpha yet?
I only know that it shows the steps of integrals, dunno about the rest.

you lost me with all the x's, a's, and b's sadly. I will try and read it over and over till I get what you are saying, thanks for help though.

Yeah I tried it, I dont like it. I bought the $1.99 app for my phone but it uses terminology like

arg(x) - arg(y) and exp and uses pi signs and all that mumbo jumbo. And they dont give me step by step. I am almost temped to pay $50 dollars for a one year use for mathway (.16 cents a day)

save me anon. I know I can learn it, I just need it broken down step by step.

I hope latex doesn't fuck up
<span class="math">
\frac{(x^2y)^{\frac{1}{3}}(xy^2)^\frac{2}{3}}{x^\frac{2}{3}y^\frac{2}{3}}=
\frac{x^\frac{2}{3}y^\frac{1}{3}x^\frac{2}{3}y^\frac{4}{3}}{x^\frac{2}{3}y^\frac{2}{3}}=
\frac{x^\frac{4}{3}y^\frac{5}{3}}{x^\frac{2}{3}y^\frac{2}{3}}=
x^\frac{^2}{3}y
[/spoiler]

This problem looks complex at first glance, but it only involves a few simple rules of exponents. A quick google search turned up many helpful links. I will not post them all, just the one that looks most apt:

Wrong link, I'm sure.
