Hello /sci/, I'm a freshman at a university, majoring in engineering. I don't have to declare which field until sophomore year, and I was wondering, what kind of job can I get with a degree in Nuclear engineering? Also Is that a very marketable degree or has fear of nuclear bombs stagnated that field?

Bump, I am also interested in this. Don't want to waste 4 years on a degree where chem/process engineers will be preferred over me.

You go into R&D, reactor design or fuel cycle engineering.
Then there's fusion research.

IMHO I would only go into nuke if you want to research fusion or gen IV+ fission reactors.

I know that the Military is always looking to hire Nuclear Engineers and will pay for you to go to school. Other than that, I've heard the same things about Nuclear Engineering as all the other Engineering Fields: Lots of people retiring and no one to replace them.

you could work for my boss, I guess, design reactors, microwaves, high energy equipment, I mean I have a mech E with nuclear focus, and the military has me, and after I get out, I want to go to Westinghouse.

Don't forget Nuclear medicine, nuclear imaging and spectroscopy, materials science, astrophysics, nuclear propulsion....
