You're right OP. Those pictures of dirt totally justify spending that amount of money. They're much clearer than before.

People wanting to feed the hungry are the problem.

It's too bad that money just disappeared into a black hole and wasn't, you know, recycled back into the economy, otherwise this feat of mind-blowing engineering might have been worth it!

Just remember kids, we can worry about space travel when we fix the problems at home! Because, honestly, what good are literally limitless resources to us anyway?

I wonder if a society with no employment could work. What ever would we do all day?

NASA creates jobs. Welfare doesn't

There would probably still be employment, just different jobs. When we become more efficient at some things then we can start doing other things.

Think up more ways to expand our influence. More ways to perfect our science. More ways to enhance our art and literature.

Also i'm, at least 90% certain there would be sex clones and bots everywhere....

People would work to fill a day, or spend it educating themselves, or just fuck around. Even given the choice many people would seek out employment for personal fulfillment and to earn greater resources then they really require.

Yeah, most people wouldn't do much in a post-scarcity environment where they aren't required to.

Most people don't do much now. If Bob no longer has to work at his job at a Footlocker, civilization won't collapse.

If people that could be great thinkers, poets, musicians, scientist and mathematicians didn't have to work at a day job at a footlocker or patent office, they might do a hell of a lot more.

I have to ask, when was the last time ANYTHING became too cheap to meter?
