Hey /sci/, I got a 50mw green laser pointer today, that's what the safety label on it says anyways, however, I seem to be unable to burn anything other than my own retinas with it, since it's not focusable. I have microscope lens lying around, how would I manage to burn through something with it?

I didn't ask for this. I'm pretty sure the laser is 50mw, the problem is it has no focusing lens. I was asking if I could focus it, not whether I should pop it open, solder it, and fucking amplify it, I want to pop balloons, not take down an aircraft.

it will burn,
get a black trashbag
wrap one layer around the front of the laser and watch it slowly tear a small hole in it.

FYI you got the wrong wavelength (color)
greens need to be much more powerful to burn, because of the relationship of energy and frequency

Cont.
green ones are the brightest per mW
blue ones are inbetween these two
Purple ones will burn the best per mW

the best and cheapest ones are from china

if you want an outdoor beam pic i can do that as well. Its hella useful for backyard astronomy and pointing things out to the kiddos. I can even mount it with some rings on my AR-15.

Dont buy it, Its a piece of shit and you would be lucky to get one at 75% of that wattage. If you are seriius, google survival lasers. But be sure to use adequate eye protection when burning or using it indoors.

Why settle for 1W?
