What if all science is literally wrong, or at least as valid as religion, magic etc. because what we think we are observing in reality we are actually creating? i.e. the "scientific method" is actually CAUSING hypotheses that one believes in strongly enough to become true, making it essentially just another magic ritual. And people think they are proving/disproving something in an experiment while in fact they are literally using their thoughts to fight someone else's thoughts from becoming reality. Mainstream science then would simply by the reality forced on the masses by the powers that be by their league of "magicians" to make people easier to control and unaware that they control their reality.

WTF man, someone on /x/ presented this and it's making me depressed.

this would actually explain how sometimes things get predicted 50 years before its observed, and i mean predicted with almost know link to reality, like the Bohr model for energy levels. and ill admit, ive entertained the idea, but:
we've made discoveries that validated theories only 1 person thought was true
we've had data from things we knew nothing about taken, and only later found a way to explain it
if this was the case, all the shit people believe like magnets curing cancer should work too.

you don't need psychic nonsense to think science is magical, science is already magical without your bullshit. black holes rip holes in reality, tachyons go backwards in time, particles in a vacuum somehow come together and form self-replicating molecules that eventually become so complex they can produce systems that are self-aware. this shit is insane and yes, magical, not in the sense that it can't be explained, but in the sense that this phenomena sounds like something only a magical spell would produce.

It's incredible how much strength uncertainy has to generate wild beliefs. I'd even go so far to say that issues that are presented on the basis of some uncertain fact are more persuasive to the average individual than issues that are presented based upon observed fact. Creating this sort of doubt is trivial OP, but also irrelevant to anyone who understands the descriptive power of science, and doesn't care about undefinable matters like "the ultimate truth" or whatever the fuck you guys are worried about on /x/. In fact, I had to be a slave to fashion, but gtfo, this is really just shit posting discussed as legitimate worry.

OP.... are you retarded?

How can I "create" a result through the act of observation?

"Belief" plays no role in science, experiments play roles in science.

The average person's relationship with science is that of ignorance and mistrust. The majority of people have not had even the most cursory introduction to most physical phenomena. At best, they remember specific buzzwords... but lack any understanding of the underlying mechanism.

if the majority's belief's were capable of influencing the outcomes of anything... they would end up undermining most scientific discoveries as soon as they become publicized; absorbing, synthesizing and then formulating perverse understandings of the world, which would then become truth based on majority opinion...

people love the idea of living in a democratic universe... one where their opinions are capable of determining what is an isn't. Thank goodness that it doesn't work that way..

If that were true there wouldn't be as many failed hypotheses and experiments (majority are). Also, we would never be able to come up with some of the shit nature has shown us. Some of it is just too weird.
Science is not a single thing, it's merely a method of using purely observation and experimentation as a basis for belief rather than superstition or faith.

Okay, so your hypothesis is that the world is governed by belief, which is strong enough to change the laws of reality, and that the belief of *scientists alone* is enough to structure reality (this must be the case, since scientists can use neew theories to predict measurements ehich were taken in the past).

Now introduce the fact that scientists believe the world is governed by mathematical law independent of observation.

Presto, by your rules, the world is now governed by mathematical laws independent of human observation, and your rules are undone.
