How much math is required for neurology/brain research?
I'm quite interested in very many subjects relating to the brain. However, I think psychology is a bit... squishy. Doesn't offer any "real" explanation for anything, just what it is.
I want to do brain research, particularly on prions and schizophrenia. Alternatively, I'd like to be a psychiatrist. What would be required to get into these fields? How much math is required?

You have to study psychology to be a psychiatrist. Psychology and psychiatry are inseparable.

Fuck all that, go for Neuroscience. At least that's actually science.

Psychiatrist is more of my backup plan. Neuroscience is my main goal. I seriously want to just study weird things in the brain. I imagine chemistry and basic electrical engineering are necessary, but I am not sure how much.

Also, psychology is easy as shit. I just watch YouTube videos about it and I get higher scores in 4000 level psychology classes than my friends without taking prereqs.

why are squishiness and realness incompatible, in your opinion

neuroscience is medical school

its 6 extra yrs plus undergrad and then training for like 3 years after you graduate from med school

its so much work

Depends, either a fuckton or none at all depending on which subfield you're going for. The people actually modeling things and trying to figure out the fundamental principles behind neural computation are quite often computer scientists and mathematicians.

Does it matter if my degree is in computer science?

I enjoy psychology but I feel like it only really accomplishes interpersonal tasks.

it doesn tmatter as long as you take your pre-med requirements

med school is tough, but thats why doctors have the highest salaries

I'm not so sure about this one Tim...

They're both important. But what matters is what I enjoy and want to do, which is more scientific than interpersonal.

if you can pass medical school your debt is high, but if youre employed that is usually paid off in a few years and your living standards will be great

Why are you Asimof instead of Asimov?
