What's the point to live? As after the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box. What's the human experience all about? We can sense, feel, create. I think it comes down to how we'd like to experience the world. I know determinsim kinda ruins the fun to an extent, but we have no option to ignore that. So life is about one's relation to the world through the senses. We have to choose,

>not to experience
>to experience; how to

I find no reason to "not to experience" as I enjoy doing many things in life. It's clearly a norm for humans to enjoy some experiences (as we are hardwired to), however "meaningless" they are in the big picture. The ones who decide to not experience and kill themselves usually have a narrow view of the world or some mental disorder which interferes with reasoning. Think, how many intellectuals, philosophers have decided to kill themselves?

So we are forced to choose how to experience the world. Most of us strive to the good feelings of joy, happiness etc. Every man's goal and passion comes down to feeling a certain way at a certain moment in time.

So what drives us? Great moments. Being in the moment. Doing things. Feeling. Experiencing.

Isn't that what everything comes down to?

>mfw people using the concept of determinism in order to feel self-pity

If you knew what you were going to do, you'd get the chance to rebel against it and do the opposite. When something is determined, you grant yourself the right to choose. If you had no clue on what was probable or not, you'd have no clue on what is possible or not.

Also, don't confuse determinism (the idea that all can be determined, which is almost a religious thing really) with what WE can determine today. That is, you think you know the future because you can read on what causes things, but even if you are sure of it, it will always be a guess, it will always be your reading on what causes things.

Determinism frees you on that sense. I'm not even getting into the discussion on whether it is something real or not, just that, if you believe in determinism you have no right to complain about it as something that stops you. Because even if you're life is determined, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS DETERMINED TO BE.

...But no, you are dicks who take your own guesses way too seriously thinking you can grasp some sort of certainty on the future.

People often confuse knowledge (or even information) with meaning.

Things only make sense when you put meaning on to them. One thing is to understand that reality will be reality regardless of how we see it. That is, Earth was round in ancient times as well, even if no one noticed. But the key is to realize that if you don't know the shape of Earth, Earth being round or not is irrelevant. So if you are not travelling by plane or broadcasting the weather and you are actually a farmer from 2000 B.C. who never got out of his small collection of hills... it doesn't matter.

But why am I saying this? Well, it seems to me that the people in this thread is searching for meaning on the outside world. That one day one will discover something that goes beyond what we already know and that will give meaning to our lives. But it's the other way around, you are the ones that give meaning to things, in the same way that in order to understand things we have to close them up into models and systems.

The thing that we want to be meaningful need to be treated by its own scale. If you want your notion of self and your life to be meaningful, it's not galaxies or atoms that will give its meaning, but, just as an example, the STUDY of atoms and galaxies might be meaningful to you. Because the word "study" is in a human scale, it involves you into a human activity.

cont

>> No.4848944

>>4848942 cont

Why bother when you are made of H2O for the most part? Why bother if you are just space between atoms? Why bother if you are so tiny in relation to the stars?

Well, why bother about those things when that never changed who you are? That you always were star dust and empty space, knowing about it or not. So you go back to your own scale, to your own life and you realize that since you were looking for meaningful answers on the outside world, the "small" universe of your life appears empty. That is because you are spreading meaning to gigantic proportions, trying to embrace everything.

And that would be fine if it didn't bother you so much. It bothers you because part of you wants life to be full of meaning and part of you wants to embrace it all up. Separate those things, clear your head on what is your life and what is what you know.

You just have to let your visceral drives/emotions run the motor. This sometimes breaks down if you get depressed, but thinking too much is a symptom not cause. Try exercise, natural sunlight, natural sleep cycles, social interaction, cutting out pharmaceuticals first, see if your motivation comes back. If not, psychiatric meds might help. Depending on your brain chemistry, you might need SSRIs or stimulants. Stay away from antipsychotic/anti-bipolar meds (ie Risperdal, Lithium) they only slow down your mental acuity.

Honestly, though, you just need to enter your own self and remove the shit that is demotivating you, and let your body take control of your natural urges. Whichever way you like.

Yeah man I've had these thoughts too sometimes.

I don't believe in heaven/hell or anything but someone far crazier than I was convinced we were in hell as humans on earth. Made sense to me, there is a lot of suffering in this world. Some have physical suffering, while others have emotional and spiritual suffering. I've been trying to find the middle ground for a while now.

Nothing we can do in our lives actually "matters" on a universal or even geological scale. Sucks, but accept making small differences.
