/lit/erate here. How does this make you feel? I majored in poli sci, went to a top 6 law school, and now make 160k a year (before bonus).

There is a weird myth that STEM majors do better than everyone else. It's true in some rare cases, but is largely bullshit. Foreigners are cheaper, and they keep wages in most STEM fields low. You also top out at something pathetic like 40k.

>> No.4808553

Congratulations, you went to law school. Your problem is you confuse your salary with your overall societal benefit (Financefags also make shittons of money, but neither of you contribute to human progress in anyway). So applaud yourself, your choice of career is a testament to your own selfishness. While you spend the rest of your life quietly, desperately assuring yourself of your value by means of your paycheck, the underfunded and unappreciated scientists will be whole-heartedly giving their lives to the sort of work that truly benefits mankind. You're not successful, you're not intelligent, you're an irrelevant, forgettable leech, and nothing you do will ever benefit anyone but yourself.

While it is true that many lawyers are useless, lawyers are necessary in modern society. The relationships between institutions and individuals have grown more complex over time. In order for corporations and other institutions to work together function properly you need to have people who study the way that those relationships relate to the laws that make them possible. That is why lawyers are useful to society. Finance is also useful, although many financial firms are straight up evil. We need finance guys to allocate capital and drive economic growth.

Nigga you must be high.
In my country lawyers literally beg for food and some money just to survive. Not considering that females and society respect more Engineers and Scientists than a regular stupid monkey like you. Keep feeling and eating your shit.
Not every country in this world are so retarded to place some major retards over Science and Development majors.

>> No.4808578

Math guys make more. Finance companies drool over their shit. And you are not making 160k straight out of law school, you are making 60k tops. Even from Ivy, maybe slightly more if you know people.

Science can make shit tons if they go into industry or if they get lucky with patents.

Majority of lib arts degrees are a waste of money because there is no job security. You are not a lib art major making 160k you are a law student making 160k. You can pass LSAT as an engineer, there is no specialized knowledge on it.

Science career in acedemia while shit pay guaranteed, you have job security and flexible as shit hours. Case and point, it's 3am im at work, and I'm not going to go tomorrow.

Yes, I am making 160k. That is the standard market salary at big firms. Stop commenting on things you obviously know nothing about.

If there were no lawyers:
>people would resort to vigilantism and the bad people would still be punished

If there were no stem majors:
>the world would have no power, buildings and bridges would decay and collapse, generally really bad shit.

Which is more detrimental to society?

Even if this were true, you'd be an outlier. And chances are, with the multitude of shitlaw firms out there (I include IP law), you're not contributing shit back to society. I'd be astounded if you somehow were. But this is too unlikely some troll who read a few statistics and got a nice picture off /lit/ - a real big time lawyer wouldn't be wasting their time in this shithole, they'd have lost touch with less significant society a long time ago.

Anyway, many people are not so lucky and end up in unpayable law school debt that forces bankruptcy. The only people really succeeding at obtaining debt paying jobs in this field are the ones with friends or relatives within big law already, or those that lucked out even further at a T1 school with top 10 grades. Liberal Arts is in just a bad place as the STEM fields will be once jobs start clogging up.

Sure if you know people you can land a big firm fresh out of school, you don't know people. Do you even comprehend how much your shit lies smell right now? To even go to a dinner party with these people means you were born with a cigar in your mouth and a golf club up your ass -unless you're 'in the family'.
