So /sci/ what is the soul? Is it not simply just the brain actively functioning? What does the soul have that the brain does not account for?

>> No.4773763

Nothing.

>> No.4773770

Consciousness arises from the brain, the brain operates according to physical laws; it is a part of the universe. The universe can be sapient for some reason beyond me.

>Consciousness arises from the brain
what brain mechanism gives rise to consciousness?

>> No.4773776

We have a paranormal board, where things like this are discussed...

>> No.4773775

There is no soul, there's only a mind. There are different theories.

>> No.4773780

Since energy is matter, we can say that everything is energy including our thoughts and thus soul. Would this mean that there is no reincarnation but there is only the transferring of energy when we die? (since our whole body is just a mass of mixed energy that could have originated from other matter)
Why is this not accepted as a fact? What can debunk this?

i don't think it is the soul but i tend to believe that mind and will are seperate things
brain is the processor and storage unit, that much is physically explainable but willpower...that still has a huge question mark both physically and philosophically behind it.
before you mislead this, no i don't believe in supernatural/imaginary beings like god but there may be another sort of forcefield that we don't yet know about like electromagnetism, gravitation, strong force etc. and that "willpower" field is interacting with something in the brain, only sufficiently evolved ones. The interaction frequency changes from person to person giving rise to different personality ilusion where it actually arises from the same force field. Idk i've actually got more insightful evidence for this but don't feel like sharing

If anyone's got it right, I'd say it's the Buddhist. see (http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/milinda.pdf)) for a buddhist view on soul.

Basically soul is nothing more a concept.
