Yes, I've told friends this countless of times. Your brain needs a lot of energy to function correctly. The more your work it, the more calories you burn too. Though, it isn't so much that you'd see weight loss or some other effect, but compared to not doing anything stimulating vs. doing hard math problems... the one doing problems is burning more fuel.

Brain calories are more than likely negligible if OP is interested in losing weight. It pretty much is part and parcel of Basal Metabolic Rate.

Yes. In case you didn't know your brain makes up 20-25% of daily caloric needs. And that's assuming an average day for an average person if you are doing a lot of thinking then you're going to spend even more.
