How is it with these fancy, Boston Universities, like Harvard, MIT etc?

Do they breed their own professors and Ph.D.s from their own gifted students, who do all that research etc., or do they also hunt for the best students, Ph.D.s from other Universities in the country, or even World? You know, giving them an offer they can't refuse.

I'm asking specifically about Boston, because it's kind of my dream to one day get a job there, and move to that awesome city from Europe.

Probably will never come true, but hey, a guy can dream.

Boston sucks. Where are you from?

Like it matters. I'm from Poland.

Why does it suck?

Massfag here. It's weird hearing that living in Boston is someone's dream, but I guess there are plenty of worse cities.

Didn't go to college here, but I work with plenty of people who did grad school at MIT/Harvard/Northwestern/BU and they came from all over the fucking place.

Enjoy your ridiculously high east coast cost of living

Boston is the very definition of mediocrity. I can't imagine why anyone would dream of living there. It's literally the worst city on the east coast not named Newark.

Boston is not a bad place to live... in fact I'd put it in the top ten metro areas in the US. It has a pretty poor night life but I've never been one for going clubbing anyway. Where do you live?

OP why not move to South Dakota

That's where I live

It's a great state with low cost of living, and cheap housing

You seem to have some hugely romanticised ideal of Boston. Sure, Harvard and MIT are good universities, but the city itself is a shithole.

It's not like Boston breeds intelligent people either; Harvard and MIT draw in their students from all across the US and, to a lesser extent, the world.

I was thinking of Utah, if I was going to move to somewhere a bit more... barren.

Okay, to be frank, I'm finishing med school next year, and I want to move to the USA. I already have the green card.

The cost of living is low in Somalia because nobody would ever want to live there.

In the sense that nothing really goes on in Boston. It's not an international city like NYC, LA (although also a shithole but in a different way), London, Paris, etc.

I don't know; it's just my opinion. But I grew up moving between London, Manhattan and Paris due to my dad's job and I can't stand not living in huge, happening cities.

lol srsly though I actually do live in South Dakota and like it due to the low cost of living and friendly atmosphere, and our largest city still has somewhat of a metro feel to it (~230,000 population)
I know nobody on 4chan or any other board will ever take South Dakota seriously though ... that feel
