So mathfags do their mathtricks and say, "Well .99 repeating is so impossibly close to 1 that it might as well be 1, so lets just say they equal each other so we don't waste our time describing a number that is meaninglessly close to another number."

There are many proofs around. Try this one:
1/3=0.333...
