Have humans ever been able to breed a new genus of animal into existence?

Why? I mean, it's possible to do so, right? Look at what we did to dogs.

Well, technically, a Chihuahua dog can not interbreed with a Great Dane boarhound anymore, so that is kind of two different species.

New species maybe. But the question was whether humans had bread a new genus. For the answer to that question, see >>4612100

>> No.4612127

also genetically, hybrids of two different species have been made. e.g. a rat nucleus in a de-nucleized fertilized egg from a mouse. but these things never make it far beyond a 8- or 16-cell stage.

so is it impossible to breed two animals from different ancestors ? like an albatros x alligator. or spider x dolphin

It is so damn hard science you might even call it impossible.
>>4612098
Some genetically manipulated Bacteria might be so far away from the wildtype that they somehow are another genus, but I cannot think of any examples.

Why?

Is there anything written on this specific issue that you guys know of? It would be really helpful.

I wanted to avoid mentioning this but I'll tell you guys why I'm asking. The Intelligent Design stuff my family reads claims that since humans have not been able to breed a new kind of animal (they use vague biblical concept of "kind", but I'll use genus since that separates cats and dogs), nature could not have done so either. They aren't expecting a crocoduck or anything like that, just a sort of new 'designer animal'.

It gave me pause because one of the reasons the theory of evolution had been convincing to me was that dogs were radically altered by humans in a short amount of time, so why couldn't nature in a long period of time.Yet they have now asked why humans haven't gone as far as nature has. And I certainly don't know.

Give me 10000 years and I'll do it, and so would nature.

the methods don't matter at all. the question is if is it possible or not.
