There is a air plane grave yard out in the middle of the desert in Arizona. I have driven by it a great number of times. I am nearly positive those pictures came from it.

Look carefully at this color coded guide. In the second configuration, the woman with black shirt and lavender pants moves over and loses some of her boots, while everyone else becomes a composite of two people, even if it's just a bit of hair or boot from before. Since brown can pick up the bit of boots left behind by lavender, it appears that there's now 13 people in place of 12.
