Whats wrong with the picture. He's right.

I wondered the same thing in a different context. 'c' relates the permittivity of free space to electric fields and magnetic fields. It just so happens that because of our units, there's a big imbalance. For example, 1T is a MASSIVE magnetic field, but a 1N/C electric field is pretty small.

That discrepancy arises because c in the units we've defined, is huge. 3x10^8. If we built our units differently, we could have c = 1. The units for magnetic field would convert with electric fields nicely, E = m.

It's possible. Massive hassle and pointless but possible. Wouldn't be feasible, we can't even get the Americans to adopt Metric, let alone another completely new set of units.

This and that muscle were named, but I hadn't the foggiest idea of where they were located in relation to the nerves or to the cat. So I went to the librarian in the biology section and asked her if she could find me a map of the cat.

>"A map of the cat, sir?" she asked, horrified. "You mean a zoological chart!" From then on there were rumors about some dumb biology graduate student who was looking for a "map of the cat."

>When it came time for me to give my talk on the subject, I started off by drawing an outline of the cat and began to name the various muscles.

It means logical reasoning. When I say step by step rational thinking, I mean the objective process of thinking in which you take an analytic approach. Metacognition is important in this.

It's like that classic high school problem:
"You've got 2 egg timers, one of 7 minutes and one of 11 minutes. How to measure out exactly 15 minutes?"
If you're really unintelligent you'll just use trial and error, but if you start rationalising, you can easily deduce the answer. *Need to measure out 15. 15-11=4. If you can measure out 4 on the 11 timer, you can do that. Measuring out 4 on the 11 timer can be done by setting both timers simultaneously, since 11-7=4*

Beta sciences give a huge amount of practice to this kind of thinking, sometimes making it almost intuitive. You'll find that every student who gets through his second year of physics/mathematics will be very proficient at this kind of thinking.

That's actually the kind of problems you do in elementary school, and then promptly forget how to solve when you grow up.

Because neuroscience and genetics are not fucking zoology or generic biology where you memorize retarded biomolecules and recite them to some professor with an IQ lower than a monkey.

Damned high schools not providing students with an obligatory course in logical reasoning/thinking techniques when they're at that stage.

Seriously.
Teaching people to think well > teaching them anything else.

I want agnosticism rates to exceed 50%, and liberalism to become widespread already.

As said here in the thread it was layman terms.

That is why whenever I learn something I always ask "Why?" and try to figure out the reasons and the logic behind the theory. Fortunately, I consider myself relatively good at it and the professors help too.
