Hello there, hopefully you are competent in the ways of physics and can tell me, since shining EM waves at atoms releases certain distinct line spectra (segments of the visible light in the EM spectrum), If waves are shone at multiple different atoms next to each other, Would there unique line spectra converge to make one new, unique reading, or would you have two separate readings for each different atom? (Also, if you could suggest a machine capable of such readings i.e. a spectrophotometre etc, it would be greatly appreciated.)

most likely if many different atoms were to shine next to each other then you would see the spectra lines of all the atoms. Of course, this is my own interpretation, which I found plausible.

Regarding the machine. A simple prism can do the trick. Notice that, the prism shows all colors in case of white light. but if atoms of a certain element were to shine, then, you'll get its spectrum lines.
