In /sci/, you should fiercely defend your own arguments, regardless of how unsubstantiated it is. Why? Because if you're right, you're either proving somebody right/wrong and nothing changes, but if you're wrong, somebody WILL tell you exactly why, since nobody on this board can resist the opportunity to show others how "clever" they are.

Once you get used to it, it's a pretty good way to test your knowledge and arguments

The few of us who deserve to be here are, but since 4chan has no restrictive policy, or method of enforcing such a policy, it becomes flooded with immature and otherwise obnoxious individuals who ruin everything.

I once proposed a system to /sci/, whereby we could completely eliminate trolling, but it was ultimately rejected.

The fact of the matter is, if you come to 4chan, you have to accept the inherent immaturity that goes with it. Ergo, deal with it.

I don't actually use it myself, but apparently there's a script that allows you to filter posts by name. I proposed that we used the script to block every single tripfag and even "Anonymous". Then we'd get tripcodes ourselves (no names, just tripcodes), and we'd use the /sci/ sticky to list "approved" tripcodes. The ones listed under approved tripcodes would be the only posts that one shouldn't filter out. If someone who is listed under the "approved tripcodes" list starts acting like a massive faggot and or retard, they go on the "banned tripcodes" list and everyone then filters that person out. It's basically a way to enable user moderation.

There are some pitfalls, like who controls what goes under the approved list in the sticky, but my solution is that we essentially elect a small council of people (3-7) to be the sort of official mediators.

I may have not explained that perfectly, but the system would work, the only problem, which has been proven empirically, is that /sci/ doesn't seem to want to enact the plan.
