actually mars is red because its an oxidized planet,the rocks are composed of Iron and because of hydrogen and oxygen found on that planet (which some scientist assure its water) the chemical reaction with the rocks turns them red and thats why the entire planet looks red.

Mars is Red. It's because of the Iron (III) Oxide aka rust on the planets surface. Mars's atmosphere is very thin and clear, so it doesn't affect the way the planet looks.

The photos taken on the surface of mars were black and white, and were 'coloured in' after the fact. While the rocks are red they are most likely not the exact shade you are used to seeing
