Java has its uses for web based applets and industrial customer software, no doubt. But for scientific computation the lacking efficiency is intolerable. It is horribly bloated with forced object orientation where it simply isn't necessary, while not allowing to access or manipulate performance on lower levels. The aspect of quickly writing software for users had more weight in the design of java than the usefulness regarding mathematical simulation as it is needed in the scientific context.

Why do I even type this out?

PHY II was pretty simply and boring but I guess if I wanted to see some of the more interesting things we can do with EM I shouldn't have been a phys major. All I got to do was find the potential inside some box and due to parallel plates.

Also, my linear algebra class was easy but didn't do shit for me. We did ONE applied example all semester and it was a biology problem. The prof spent the entire time making us memorize: A basis has the following 329 properties... and then wouldn't explain how it was important in any way. I'm still mad at that class because I spent so much of my QM class time trying to relearn the linear algebra that I actually needed.
